I didn't have any flu symptoms. Just cold symptoms. But I'm barely congested at all. I started out with sinus drainage on the 27th and lost my taste/smell on the 30th.

Still, haven't had even a cold since before covid. I like to think the masks work. Keeps all that other shit away too.

Still, I am not allowed to return to work until I get my test, which is on Monday.

I think it's that foam swab test.

I do have very mild congestion, but nothing like a head cold where your nose feels like it's a horribly clogged toilet. That kind where you blow your nose, can taste again, and then 5 seconds later you're stuffed up again.

Yes, it's not the same virus (although a study now suggests Omicron variant may have picked up genes from a common cold virus), but they are quite closely related - which would suggest cold symptoms, if either, are more likely to be covid. EDIT: Further to this, it also comes to mind that HCoV-OC43 - a coronavirus that causes some of the nastier colds these days (still just colds, though) - is suspected of being the causative agent behind the 1890 pandemic, which it's recently been noted that reports from during said pandemic describe symptoms and mortality patterns very similar to those of covid, and less like the flu.

Though most of all - the loss of taste/smell itself is one of the most signature, "almost certianly this and nothing else", covid symptoms, and indeed can for some people be the only symptom.

I didn't have any triggers like that AFAIK. I noticed after work Thursday when I got home and ordered some Chinese food. I could taste my breakfast and lunch that day, but some time between 11:00 and 7:30 my nose and tongue went into standby mode.

Can you still sense certain qualities of food? Like, I'm drinking coffee rn and I can't taste it at all but I still get the sensations of drinking something sweet and bitter.
