Egwene and Perrin get in a bit of a pickle with that Knifey McBackstab whitecloak guy, but she channels a feint as he awakens werewolf (??????) powers or something. Maybe he'll regenerate after his back was sliced up like a tic-tac-toe board. Curious what Eggy will do with all that bloody ring necklace she found, too.

Meanwhile, Lan's buddy who looks like Sean Bean's brother puts up a brave front and kills himself at the end. Kinda guessed he'd drug Lan when they introduced the sleeping powder scene, but figured he might go kill that false Dragon dude in his birdcage. Lan sold the pain in the final scene, even doing a shirt-ripping yell at the heavens.

I thought Rand and Matt were in a different city though (no tower in skyline?), so I was curious how Nynaeve showed up out of nowhere. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, 'cause I feel like they would've called out to someone they knew from the balcony seats if they'd seen 'em. (That scene almost feels deliberately staged to NOT show people they knew, now that I think about it.)

Mark book spoilers properly, btw.

Kind of a slower less eventful episode after last week's and the 3 episode drop to start with. The production values with the White Tower and Tar Valon are really nice though, and lots of good character stuff with the Warders and Rand + Mat.

Haven't read the books so not really sure why the Aes Sedai are bothering to keep Logain, is it just the fact that their oaths don't allow them to kill him?

I thought they wanted their leader to handle Logain or something. Didn't they mention that in an earlier episode, before he got BTFO after seeing Nynaeve's power?

generic book spoilers. no specifics, just general plot structure.

i think this episode will be the one that determines whether you like the show or not. I think a lot of future episodes will feel a lot like this one, with the rest feeling like episode 4. if you liked 4 and were ok with 5, i think you'll enjoy the series. if you liked 5, i think you'll love the series.

I like how so many of the main characters have their own interesting awakenings going on. We knew Perrin was going to have some kind of wolf affinity, but it seems like it runs real deep after what his eyes were doing and how easily he got out of his bonds.

I wonder if his wolf powers are channeling the One Power (or whatever it's called) or something else. We don't want our blacksmith bro to be driven mad. =(

It could be anything, there might be other types of power out there that nobody's explored yet.

I'm a little concerned about dashing rogue bro and his extremely visible descent into madness. He was warned not to touch anything, but he touched a dagger and now he's fucking crazy.

I absolutely loved that Loial isn't CGI, and the little touch like him ranting in the background about hasty humans while everyone else ignores him is just pitch perfect lol.

Something led him to pick up the dagger. I wonder if it's an actual character or just a spky killer shadow ghost.

Book spoilers:

It's interesting that they skipped Camlyn, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole group never went to the white tower until after the eye of the world. They're changing around the order of things, too soon to tell if I like it or not

i think i read that part of the reason is that had they done Caemlyn, they would have to have Elayne for like 1 episode and then no more until Season 2, which is apparently a big problem in Show contract standards

I think it's also because they've spent a ton of time in the show talking about the importance of Tar Valon so you have to show it to the viewers. Camlyn doesn't really play a huge role in the first book, what it does is mostly set up stuff for later books, which the show can just do later.

As a fellow book lover, 4 and 5 were better for me even if they do branch further from the original works. Jordan had so much building through internal monologue that 8 episodes for a full book makes things need to be condensed.

i just have few general issues so far.
i can forgive most things as being an adaptation, but i cannot forgive how they portray Thom.
sure, aging him down is one thing, but i always imagined him dressed very colourfully, with the patchwork cloak in all sorts of weird shades. clothes that really draw the eye

yet here we see him dressed in drab greys and browns like he's just come home from ploughing a field.

i did love his song, though

Patches are on the inside of the cloak for the adaptation. Kinda makes sense as hes technically wanted when they find him by Morgase lol.

Yeah, and I think it makes sense to try and merge the 13 into 8, since then each of them could have a little more impact than simply being for the most part cartoonish villains who fail at every turn.

Yeah it does seem that most of the early ones from the books exist solely for the purpose of getting killed.

But the nr 13 is permeated through the whole book, so i'm guessing that's not gonna be a thing

What ones would make the most sense to get rid of? Demandred maybe? Dude spends the entire series doing stuff off in another land and then just shows up near the end.

They could very well merge him with Rahvin or Sammeal, or that one dude who got balefired by Moraine. It would add a little more to their characters, and instead of dying when they did survive to lead the dark forces. Lanfear and Ishamael I think are the two who need to remain themselves. Maybe Asmodean too.

Kind of hard to spoil the book considering literally nothing that happened in this episode happened in the book. They are just making shit up as they go so it doesn't really matter if anyone says what happens in the books since they clearly don't give a damn about the actual story.

Oh no. This isnt what I wanted to hear. I'm already struggling to get around the huge amount of small but important things they've just completely thrown away, and how little we even get to see of Two Rivers before they leave it. Hell, nothing at all with Tam which is criminal.

And the way Thom is already being portrayed. None of the personality that draws you in to wanting to know more about him in the books. Just generic "serious, dour older man" character so far..at least from what they showed in episode 3. I hope they fixed him in 4 and 5..

They have 8 episodes to put 800 pages of book into. They cut some stuff and condensed others but essentially they just took Caemlyn out due to issues with contracts (they didnt want to have the characters there just for one episode in the first season then not pop back up until season 2). The Caemlyn stuff is happening in Tar Valon instead.

I wasn't one to immediately be against all the "changes" they have made for the books but I'm enjoying most of them so far and they are paying off better than I thought they would.

The whole "who is the Dragon reborn?" thing is enjoyable.
