The reason those explosives havent been used in all this time is probably cause those white supremacists died of meth overdoses.

Weird to tie this to white supremacists when most of this is probably just ol' boys stealing them to detonate in some backwoods for entertainment or just plain clerical error and people covering their asses. Y'all need to stop with the doomsaying all the time.

And? A historian drew a parallel to something that happened 40 years ago? How is that proof or evidence of anything at all?

Do you think munitions disappearing from the military is something new? Do you think it happened once in the 80s and now once again in the last decade? The U.S. military is a gigantic organization that is constantly losing track of munitions and materiel on account of bureaucracy and corruption. Not every instance of something going missing is because "this boogeyman did it". Being a historian means using evidence based reasoning to reach conclusions. There is no evidence currently that any substantial amount of military-grade explosives is going to white supremacists groups planning a race war. It's pure speculation. Let's use a bit of critical reasoning here:

  1. They don't need military-grade explosives to race war. I'm sure the White Supremacists have plenty of guns and bullets to go crazy killing non-whites as soon as they feel like going to prison with a long trip to the lethal injection table.
  2. You can make weapons grade explosives yourself, at home! It's not all that difficult with a bit of determination, although you may blow your fingers off! The Boston Bombers didn't have any special chemistry knowledge or stolen military hardware--They just used commercially available black powder and a pressure cooker to create a deadly pseudo-explosive. That's before getting into simple nitrate-based high explosives, which someone with a bit of glassware, a hotplate, and some instructions could make. Just ask the Unabomber. Then I'm sure there are plenty of white supremacist explosive enthusiasts and chemists that could also step in and take it even further if we're doomsaying about some organized race war event.
  3. Explosives and munitions have been disappearing from the U.S. military since its inception, and over the last half century the number of military explosive ordnance that has been used to commit "race war" is... None, as far as I can tell? I mean, the MOVE bombing, maybe, which was carried out by the government, if you really stretch the definition. It turns out that it's a lot easier to make your own bombs than to try to smuggle bombs out of the military with all the papertrail associated with it.
This is, again, just plain fearmongering and doomsaying. There's plenty of reasons to be worried about White Supremacist groups, but the idea that they are being bolstered by smuggled U.S. military explosive munitions is a real stretch without an investigation proving any sort of connection whatsoever.

wait hold on, I just read the article
In response to the data, Defense officials said only a small minority of service members have stolen explosives and that the amount of those lost or stolen is tiny when compared to overall armament stockpiles.

Where is this connection to white supremacy? I never saw a reference? Are we under the assumption that because some military members lost stuff in the 80s. That the KKK is gonna start some massive civil with a land mine from the 1980s??? Im seriously confused

I mean seriously this is a site for gamers. Even if you have never fired a gun you have played enough games to know that a million of them are more dangerous than a single grenade which is exactly what we are talking about here.

Appeal to authority. As someone who has invested a tremendous amount of time into the study of history as well, I can assure you that historians are far from infallible,n especially when it comes to predicting the future.

Have I? I already wrote a post summarizing the history of military munitions used in White Supremacist terrorism within the last 5 decades (None), then defined three different logical approaches as to why that is. Why are you criticizing for shallow arguments when the extent of TC's arguments are, "Someone on twitter asserted it without evidence so it must be true!"

Reading wikipedia isn't studying history lol

You know so much about me, wow. You and TC WOULD get along, you both like baseless assertions.

That's not what I said, but I appreciate the attempt to besmirch my character instead of engaging my arguments. A true gentlemen's approach to debate.

Tell me, since you seem to trust the conclusions of Kathleen Belew so much, I would presume you've founded this trust based on a review of her previous work. What did you find so impressive about her research at the University of Chicago that drew you to her? What in her new book really spoke to you about the thoroughness of her approach? Because, I mean, pfft, surely you didn't just see a tweet from someone on the internet and believe it out of hand? Why, the only reason someone would do something so blatantly stupid would be if said tweet was provocative and bias-confirming enough that it excited you beyond your temperance to apply critical thinking first.

Not all historians are good, and not all good historians are right all the time. You are doing no one any favors by believing the account of one person so completely, especially when the account is by all metrics purely speculative. You are not supporting the fight against white supremacy. You are supporting fear mongering. I mean, there is actually zero evidence that she provides to support her implications. None. I hope that is abundantly clear to you, at least.

I'm not going to be shamed for seeking veracity, but feel free to think what you want. If your concern is with petty things like grandstanding some false superiority over me instead engaging with an honest debate about critically analyzing statements in the era of social media, then I am comfortable with ignoring your criticisms. With over 30 posts and no good faith arguments, I've said my piece and I'll leave it at that.
