One should criticize both sides.

Acting like Democrats should be untouchable is like saying you're not allowed to criticize police because cartels are worse.

@Houston

the second example does seem to exaggerate - the first post however appears true. Here it is with sources.

https://theappeal.org/retail-theft-ben-dugan-cvs-walgreens-shoplifting/

The number of reported shopliftings is down because stores stop bothering to call police because its such a ****ing waste of time.

The shoplifters are almost always long gone and even if caught its a misdemeanor, which means they dont give a f*** if the person misses their court date because it just means more time wasted & paperwork over a misdemeanor.

Police responding to our store would sometimes explain some of this stuff, prop 47, and pretty much end it with it is what it is, just stay safe. And sometimes it would be an officer whod be annoyed or pissed off that they had to respond to our store again.

We just stopped calling unless it was a big hit or stuff was trashed (like whenever they smashed in the glass cabinet with the perfume & cologne).

And two weeks after the George Floyd incident we were told the company changed the policy so that we no longer had to interact with shoplifters in any way, just notify management. No more soft-stops, no more asking if they needed help (as if we didnt ****ing notice theyre shoplifting right in front us).

EDIT: Found this, it seems like what one of the officers explained to us.
Newsom has repeatedly said prosecutors can "stack" multiple misdemeanor thefts into a felony charge. But Pierson, the district attorney, said that "reveals a significant misunderstanding of the law in the wake of Prop. 47."

Subsequent court decisions require that the repeated thefts involve the same victim and conduct eventually amounting to a loss exceeding $950, which Pierson said "is very difficult to prove."

"The law here in California is very clear we cannot simply stack petty thefts into a felony," he said.

It's becoming quite obvious certain people on CE can't or won't defend this or even give their honest input on the matter. The actions of the looters are bad. This is bad behavior. This is not normal. This is not just part of "living in a big city". Something is clearly wrong in CA right now, and if anyone says otherwise, I'd love to hear their input.

I'd like to take this opportunity to recommend Leon Trotsky's book.

I feel like this type of stuff just gives Republicans an easy way to grab power.

Long Island in NY got fucked pretty hard this past election. Long time Democrat DAs for both counties were replaced by relatively unknown Republicans. Simply because they ran on "bail reform bad".

"bail reform bad".
The "Ayn Rand loon" perspective on this is that there shouldn't be bail.

no one would reasonably defend this. My point is that theres no evidence that shows its as widespread as people claim. Yeah, its a big country, it happens, but it doesnt really that happen that often. And theres not one shred of evidence in the original post or in this thread about those specific stores and whats happening with them and why. Its just some rando on Twitter making a bunch of wild claims.

Are the pictures lying? A bunch of places are just randomly (and suddenly) boarding up? It may not be "widespread" but clearly what has transpired over the past week or so is having an impact.

You're really going to take the position of, "We don't really know why stores are boarding up and there's no proof"? My goodness.

Crime has utterly collapsed in the US since the 1970s.
This "flashrob" thing is statistically insignificant, but it's just enough of a spike to cause concern.

and I didnt say there was no proof. I said there hasnt been any proof posted about those stores in question.
