This makes me think of my favorite rant and why the standard work day need to be shorter (four to six hours would be ideal with wages adjusted of course).

I know its supposed to be eight hours sleep, eight hours work, eight hours whatever time, but that part of eight hours of work doesnt take into account unpaid lunch breaks, commute time, getting ready time, etc.

Its especially bad if you have a long commute. F***, I used to spend 80-90 minutes a day driving. Thats over an hour every single day down the fuckin toilet.

The whole system is fucked.

Yeah I only have 4 or 5 hours after I get home before I have to go sleep again, because of commute and getting ready time

I have never had a 9-5 job in my life.

Not to meme but I think that's a Boomer thing.

Today retail jobs are all over the place and office/admin jobs are all day and night every night until you get your work done.

When I was in retail I worked 8am to either 10/12PM depending on the day and absolutely no one thought that was strange.

I'd get home at 1 AM, sleep, get up at 6AM and do it all over again for shit pay.

I don't miss it. It's a horrible industry and people who have never worked retail or any customer facing service have no idea WTF it's actually like.

You can always tell when you talk to someone if they "know" or not. I'm not sure the right verbage for it but you can tell

There are some 9-5 or 8-4 positions at my place. But most of us work 5:45 to 6 o'clock. And to be said they say in my line of work being on time is late so a lot of us are there longer than that. We show up early but we aint working till its time to start working though.

If someone that has a standard office job is working every night to get their work done then they have terrible time management. Most office jobs barely have 20-30 actual hours of work a week. The rest of the time is spent finding ways to waste time or trying to look busy when management walks by the desk.
