some people here are in disbelief that TheGoldenEel can listen to 500+ new releases a year

if you listen to one new album a day that's like 300+ a year

you guys are just lazy

I don't listen to quite as many new albums as GoldenEel, but I've still listened to a couple hundred new ones this year.

I've listened to tonnes of other albums too.

Music is life.

I could easily listen to 500 albums a year.

I think TC was referring specifically to albums that came out this year.

I wouldn't be able to listen to that much music and fully absorb it.

Because you'd have to really love music to dedicate that much of your free time listening to new albums. Like for 500+ albums, that's easily over 500 hours worth of albums. For me, that would be nearly 1/4 of all of my free time for that year.

Even beyond that it shows a certain dedication i don't have. I probly listen to that amount of music but I have so much music I love already I don't put much effort at all into searching out new music at all. I'm always up for new stuff when I come across it one way or another but I rarely seek it out.

That's the thing. You're not really absorbing the music. Especially if you're multitasking. If your first listen or second listen is your best listen, that's probably not a very good album lol. I need like 5-6 before it really sets in.

I almost exclusively listen to just podcasts or YouTube videos anymore.

I only really listen to music when I go to actual shows.

If you're a musician you're probably already spending way more time than that on music.

Besides it's not like you have to be idle. Work out for an hour while listening to an album that goes on for an hour.

I wish there was a clone or somebody with my exact tastes in music that will listen through all of the garbage and compile me only the good stuff while I do anything else.

I don't think I've listened to an album released in 2021

Tickets to My Downfall by Machine Gun Kelly is the most recent, released September 2020

The third most listened artist on my Spotify hasn't released an album in 7 years lol. I'm at that point of my life where I have enough music.

Honestly a lot of music I don't like so I tend to stick to my favorites. I tried to binge new music a couple months ago and out of 30-40 individual songs I only cared to add 5 of them to my playlists. I would also rather create my own music these days.

It takes multiple listens for me to really grasp an album, even if it's something simple that I enjoy. And if I enjoy it, I'll want to listen to it again. Whenever I listen to music, it's typically going to be stuff I know I like. The idea of spending so much time listening to new music when there's already countless albums I know I like isn't one I can relate to. I can count the amount of times I listen to a new album a year on one hand usually.

If I really liked music that much, I could probably easily listen to 100s of albums a year. I'm allowed to listen to music at work, and it's about the only thing that drives you through the boredom of it, and I usually listen to music while walking my dog at night. Outside of my rock favorites, most music is pretty boring to me, so I mostly just listen to the same stuff over and over.
