I think I have a love-hate relationship with PS2 games.

For their time, many PS2 games were great but playing some of them now their age truly shows. Overall, this was a pretty fun game (I enjoy the traps) but there were plenty of moments of frustration with the platforming, so much so that I wouldn't even bother with the next entry in the series. And the combat has not aged very well.

Back in the day I can see this being an 8.5.

Playing today, a 7.3.

I still think the games should have focused less on combat. The Sands of Time had very cheesable combat encounters, but each successive game sought to pad out the combat and I kinda don't like it.

The Prince of Persia games are incredible puzzle games. I don't play them for the swashbuckling, I play them for the puzzles.

I use to hate this game cause I had to replay it 3 times on the gamecube to get the real ending.

Did that back to back I was fed up with the game after that. Anytime I remember the prince of Persia games I remember this.

I agree and think that about a lot of PS2 generation games. It's kind of an overrated generation these days.

the next one in the series isn't even good from what i remember, so better to skip it.

even though it's not the same canon or whatever, the artsy PS3 PoP was really fun. it has 20x the platforming but it was made easier and more fun, and it's a massive collectathon in some ways but it's still pretty fun.

The next game is actually the Two Thrones on the PlayStation 2.

But yeah I've heard the PlayStation 3 one is bad.

This game isn't a very good example to do this tbh

Sands of Time is fantastic, Warrior Within sucks (I mean it's obviously playable, but next to SoT it's awful)

I agree 100%, the combat in WW is espeically garbage and annoying. In sands of time you kinda just deal with its simplicity and get to "the good part" which is the platforming but they insisted on it with the sequels.

That being said, forgotten sands does something they should have done from the beginning, include powerups and stat growth for combat. That way we can at least feel some level of progression instead of fighting the same enemies every time for no reason

I agree with that as well. The traversal and treating each room like a puzzle was what made the first game good, and honestly that one could have had way less combat too

I liked the Dahaka encounters.
I know the escape moments were polarizing among the people who played it.
