I just re-downloaded the Marvel Unlimited app today to get back into reading comics again. Last year was really when I started reading them. I read through the whole Civil War arc, I'm planning on going back to reading the House of M storyline. I read through World War Hulk. I think there was some others I was planning on reading but I forgot.

Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations of what to read next? Whether it be specific heroes/villains or storylines? Could be anything you personally enjoyed.

I enjoyed the comic version of Spider-Verse. The movie is good too. But the story in the comics is better imo. It's a completely different plot though. So don't expect the movie's story

Superior Spider-Man is essential reading. If you can get past the hokey premise it's phenomenal especially if you like a good redemption arc.

I second the recomendedation of Earth X , for May Parker specifically. It's as juicy as the early Ultimate stuff, which I also recommend. Outside of Spider-Man, the first arc of Ultimate Avengers is amazing (Grey Hulk through Ant-Man assaulting Wasp) ~ That's where we got our Nick Fury, man! Earth X hasn't really seen any screen time. It's the equivalent of Logan. Literally.

earth x is too dense to suggest to a new reader. also requires a ton of background knowledge

That's kinda the fun of it for new readers. You have potentially a once in a lifetime experience which will steer your direction as you pick and choose new stories to read and in what order. If you start with stuff like Earth X and kinda work your way back, why not? Getting ahold of the really old comics at this point would be the first step tho. A box of assorted issues, and a few documentary compendiums discussing the rare stuff.

That's all you need for Earth X. Confusion is fun. The old Transformers are great for that. Haha

Just waltz into a comic shop and stalk the place dry. Barnes & Noble don't normally give a fuck if you hang out all day just reading, buying coffee, and a book or two maybe. Lol . Make a thing of it. If you can.

Why would he do that if he's got a subscription straight to his phone/tablet already?

Ultimate Spider-Man is my go-to recommendation most of the time

It's accessible to new readers and messes with the bits and pieces of the Spider-Man mythos just enough that someone broadly familiar with the mythos will be surprised by stuff.

When I first read Earth X I had like Exiles and Moench MK under my belt. Yeah it's a dense story, and needs a ton of background knowledge. Since that asks for multiple reads to fully appreciate, IMO the best method is read once as a new reader, check out different characters in their own mags, go back and read again. And probably a third, fourth, fifth time etc.
The only fault I can find with Earth X is that they probably won't ever make a story as perfect as it again.
