I'm looking to spend up to around 1400 dollars before taxes on a good gaming laptop. Any suggestions for where to go to look, or any particular laptop online?

Last time I was in Walmart they had a nice one(I think) with either a ryzen 7 or 9 with 16 gb of ddr4 ram and an rtx 3070 for around 1400 bucks, so I'm really hoping they still have that one honestly. Any suggestions though?

that's not bad. definitely want to go with a SSD larger than 512GB b/c that will get used up real quick with games. 8GB of RAM seems like a little light, too. consider the version with 1 or 2 TB SSD and 16GB of RAM.

for a basis of comparison, i built a PC like 2 weeks ago with an i5 11600k, 3060, 16GB DDR4, 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD and it came out to like $1300 + an afternoon of my life and i reused PSU, SSD (w/Windows), 3 TB HDD from my last build to save like $200

all the specs you mention are fine. ryzen5 or 7. rtx 3060/70 whatever mobile version i dunno. for RAM get at least 16gb. might be cheaper to buy it with 8gb and just upgrade it yourself later but eh, you're already paying 1400+ for a laptop, just get it with 16gb.

just know that Thin = less cooling capabilities = LOUD AS SHIT FANS

that's something i meant to mention and forgot. the cooling on some of these laptops, especially thinner ones, can be a problem. see if anyone has posted a review commenting on this.

I will definitely remember this

I'm gonna be looking in some stores today before I buy anything offline, and I'm definitely gonna consider that and probably Google some reviews if I find something good in store.
