So I want to get a remote job that requires a good amount of time talking on the phone. But my nephews are loud as shit crying and screaming every day. Is there an easy way I can sound-proof or at least heavily muffle sounds coming from outside my door? The walls are paper thin.

I've heard that covering the walls in egg cartons can be an effective way to sound-proof a room.

Get a solid core door, and one those foam things to slide under the door. For the walls, maybe put up shelves and add books and stuff or use those studio foam panels.

Or you can get a noise gate.

This is the best advice so far. The rest will only mildly dampen sounds which is good enough for most but you need to dampen screaming.

I lived in a similar situation and I covered the floor in thick rugs and put bookshelves or furniture against every wall

It actually helped a ton

If you will be taking calls from your computer and not cellphone, a really nice headset mic will take care of much of the background noise. That plus a solid core door and you should be good.
