So everyone knows Penn State, and most people who follow Big 10 Football know about the shit that went down with the football program back in 2012 (Our then-coach, Joe Paterno, hid a pedophile because he didnt want to rock the boat)

my school does this big cancer fundraiser (Thon) every year, and its always a big event with lots of stuff around it. Theres one problem, because its always taken place in the concert hall just outside campus, which has some problems of its own, most notably a lack of seating for the biggest school event.

Things werent always like that. Year years years ago there were plans to just hold it at the football stadium, but Joe Pa was livid and demanded that nothing ever take place there but football. Because my school basically funneled most of its money to that program, they bent. Stadium is a giant eyesore and ignored most of the year as a result.

Now the man is dead, and has been dead for nearly a decade, and Im still hearing people in the Facebook group saying we have to honor his memory, and that it goes against school spirit to use that massive multi-million dollar space on a thing for children with cancer.

honor his memory for what?! He hid a man molesting children in the shower! Had he not been caught, he wouldve taken his scant 2 years left and taken that secret to the grave with 0 remorse, without a second thought. The year he was ousted, they shouldve held Thon there out of spite.

he used to have a metal statue, and they removed it, of course, but I know in my heart its in some private collectors garage and not transformed into sheet metal for the local dump.

I will never donate money to my school smh

i get it, he's the second winningest college football coach in history and was THE man on campus for decades, but being a supporter and caring about his wishes a decade after he died....yikes!

Though living in PA I don't know if I actually knew what the hell a THON actually was(other than being short for marathon) so I guess neat to finally find out. In the past I probably could have actually read the words on somebodies t-shirt besides "thon" but hell wait a few years and a chap like you comes along and just tells me.

paterno sucked. he knew what Sandusky was doing and brushed it under the rug to protect his football team. Fuck his legacy

People are so delusional about their idols. Sorry that you worshipped a guy who turned out to be shitty. And all for a dumb football team. I like sports, but they are just silly entertainment that doesn't matter at all. Hard to find a worse example than Sandusky but you also got these guys in the pros that get slaps on the wrist for beating women and stuff because they help their team win.

Also my alma mater doesn't have any controversies like that but they of course obnoxiously beg for money. Fuck you, I already paid a shitton of money just to go there
