Been on a Megaman binge and was curious how you guys would rank the X series.

I think that's the consensus but I do know I like 2 more than 1 tbh. Need to replay 4.

A lot of people will put 1 and 2 above 4. I think 4 is overrated personally, but it's still at least pretty good. A lot of people hate 3 and I like it quite a bit, despite all its problems. I guess my personal ranking would be something like this :
1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 8 > 5 > 6 > 7.

X1 - X4 - X2 - X3 .......... X5 - X8 .................... X6 .................... X7

I tend to swap 2 and 4, and 5 and 8 around.

For me, 1 > 2 > 4 > 3 >= 5 > 6, haven't played the rest.

5 killed my interest; not that it's bad, it just wasn't as good as the others and I played them all back to back. I'll go back to it eventually

I stopped at 6 IIRC, "enjoyed" them to that point. Zero is better IMO.

7 sucks, 8 and 5 is meh, 6 is frustrating, the rest is pretty good.

Its not as good as 1 - 4, but its better than 5 - 7.

The Zero series perfected how a Mega Man game should control IMO. Zeros movement is so damn fluid and precise. I dont feel like you get that level of accuracy in the other series

I replayed the series recently and god damn do I wish they made those games for something that's not the GBA. I think the limitations of the gba really take the games down a lot because the level design often sucks ass and doesn't allow you to exploit those controls as well as you should be able to. This is especially true for Zero 1 and 2.

Btw the collections been $20 new and $13 used for a long time. Everyone should get it.

3 and 4. Just get the collection. You get the ZX games as well which are pretty good

I've only played the first one but I can easily say that it's one of the best platformers on the SNES, which is saying something.

1+2 are kinda clunky and they never nailed what to do with Elves, to the point where when I replay I just ignore them entirely.
But 3+4 are the two of the best Mega Man games outright. The multi hit saber, dash on L and weapon switch to R is a total game changer. Never played another platformer that flows so easily between close combat and distance fighting.

6 is so bad it's almost good. It's like The Room of 2D video games. Like they were purposely trying to design the most unfair, frustrating, unfun Mega Man game possible.

7 is just depressing. I didn't even finish it. I will probably finish it when I do my replay of the series.

8 was pretty uneven in terms of level design for sure, but you know, it had some good ones, unlike 7.

X8 seems good on paper, but every stage is a different experience.

Mantis - Dark stage, stealth, waves of enemies
Rooster - Vertical dropping and climbing with auto-scrolling
Trilobyte - Chased by, then pursuing and fighting the miniboss
Sunflower - Mini-games
Yeti - Vertical ride chaser
Man-O-War - Rail shooter
Pandamonium - Sidescrolling puzzles revolving around use of the ride armor
Antonion - Gravity block puzzles

Then you have the currency system, those crystals/metals you have to collect in order to make things such as the retries (which take the place of extra lives), and there are two armors again. At least this time you can use the parts right away, and mix them up. You still have to deal with tons of spikes (the final stage being a huge offender), the sudden return of Vile (again), and stage design.

At least you don't have to rescue Reploids anymore.

Yeah. Not saying BURN TO THE GROUND is a great line or anything, but it's memorable. And not every boss or level is bad. Some are worse than others, some are pretty fun.

Clearly X1-X5 are the good games, with only X8 being good enough after those, as 6 and 7 Suck ass.

X8 had like 5 good stages, 3 bad stages so its better than X6 which had only 1 good stage being the ice stage, and X7 had no good stages atall.

its insane to me anyone would put anything above 7. 7 is legitimately wretched and the funny moments are far outweighed by the worst level design in any megaman related thing ever. even 6, half finished and half translated, is better than that

The only positive thing I can say about X7 is it had some decent music, not a lot but some.
