The movie posits that these demons are not just being scary and evil for the sake of doing so, but that they literally require to do so to get their lifeforce and survive. It's a matter of survival. They get the energy from either laughter, or from screams. You could practically change those words to "love" and "fear". The movie is saying, that demons (and by extension, God) cannot and will not survive without either your love or your fear of them, and that is the only thing powering their existence. <cite>JimmyFraska posted [p:960432860] in My conspir... The same way Andy and Sid are a sort of God and Devil running their respective heaven/hell, even though unlike God those characters are actually less in the know than their subjects.
