Just thinking of buying my brother a new controller for his PC. Hes currently using some old ass official xbox controller that is cabled and is starting to fall apart.

The new ones im looking at, i presume is for xbox series x and xbox one is wireless. But okay, i have a spare bluetooth dongle lying around but then i find out that it needs 2 AA batteries to run it. So i have to pay 20 extra for the rechargable battery pack.

Like what the fuck, playstations DS4 or even the PS3 controllers have built in battery. Why cant Microsoft do the same?

You could buy the Elite 2 which has a built in battery then.

Why the fuck would I want another point of failure in my controller?

Give me a battery I can swap any day.

Easier to swap batteries than have to wait for a charge. Just use rechargable AA's and you're all set.

PS4 controllers fucking suck.

An Xbox controller with a swappable eneloop battery is a way better experience.

When your controller's built battery dies, its time to replace the whole controller. Plus, its never happened to me so i disregard that argument.

So is it better to keep buying batteries, buy rechargable batteries and a battery charger or just buy one of them official power packs?

Either way, the xbox controller is going to cost me 55 plus all that battery shit whilst a dual sense 5 is 55 and you're set.

i'm not joking about these. they're the best rechargeable batteries on the market. get the white ones and not the black ones, the black ones are apparently a high draw design and they degrade quicker.

sorry cant help you there, i use them for my quest controllers but i've got no idea what the xbox controller uses. a quick lookup suggests AA, but i'd ask someone who actually owns one first.

Well im glad i made a topic about this because i was going to just buy the official battery pack. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ive seen lots of unknown brand rechargeable batteries and they've always put me off, worried that they'd be crap or might be dangerous.

But after looking up this panasonic one and reading some good reviews, i'll go ahead and give this a try.

Thanks everyone.

I also use the eneloop batteries for my Xbox. The best batteries I've ever had. Have 4 charging at all times. When either of my controllers get low on batteries, just swap them.

I always hated that with the PS4 if you are low on batteries you had to either swap controllers, or have to play with a wire so it charges while you play. So annoying. Also, after many years, my PS4 controllers barely last me 3 hours on a full charge

Idk Dualsense lasts up to 5 hours before it gets the "gas tank light indicator", which is code for 1 hour left. Then I just plug it in with a long USB-C cable until I'm done for the night.

The front light touchpad, rumble motors, and adaptive triggers probably suck up 40% of the battery, hence why they don't last long by industry standard.

My PS3 controllers hold literally 0 charge, but my 360 controllers are still going strong. My PS3 controllers are basically wired controllers.

My first PS4 battery is definitely seeing its battery dying. One day I'll try to open up all these controllers to replace the battery, but I hear it's only getting harder and harder to do so in these play station controllers.

Ever since wireless controllers became a thing I've just been using them wired to the console, it's way less hassle.

Except for the Switch pro-controller, that thing has an infuriatingly short cable.

It's annoying that Xbox controllers use batteries, but in my experience their battery life is usually 2-3x longer than PlayStation controllers (at least this was the case for DS4 and DualSense)

I like having removable batteries personally, and I like that they are AA's instead of some proprietary thing that you can only get from MS. It means I can keep a bunch of charged batteries handy, and if the ones I'm using die I just trade them out with some from the charger.

What? Fuck! I thought the black ones, pro as I think they are referred to, are supposed to have a higher capacity and that's the trade off? They last longer per charge. I like the black ones more since they just look better if you ask me, which is why I just ordered some more last night.

I always found this pretty annoying back when I had an X360. Not as annoying as the dpad / left stick layout, but still.

Of course, PS3 had its own problems - that controller is very awkward to actually grip. Thankfully PS4 greatly improved on that.

well they're going to last longer then pretty much any other rechargeable battery you might have gotten from duracell or energizer so its not a huge loss, i've just been told that the white ones end up lasting longer.
