The fucking combat in the game is utter shit
Like the claim to Agahnim in Hyrule Castle was awful because of how shit the combat is
Maybe having a functional fucking shield like in the fucking gameboy game would have been nice but no instead just lets make it fucking basically useless.

the combat? you mean you swing your sword which has a decent enough range to hit enemies? or use one of the many ranged weapons the game give you to handle enemies?

Its always been my favourite so I played it the most but I suck way more at MM and OoT

The shield is quite useful, but only for projectiles. Otherwise, you just need to position yourself correctly when fighting so that you can strike at the right angle. You can also hold your sword out as a form of defense, since your shield doesn't help in melee.

Experiment with some items too. Something I never realized the first time I played through was just how good the Medallions are. If you're in a particularly tough room, use one of the Medallions. They cost magic obviously, but they're very effective. Most of the time at least.
