That one guy that said all have equal opportunity is wrong. Forgetting even all the shit native Americans deal with today, most of them are dead. They don't even get to live. We wiped out most most them and effectively erased their culture. There is a reason in most of America you hardly ever bump into a native American

You joke but this is legitimately a loud and common anti immigration argument from the right. Especially from some crazy Christian groups.

This does bring up an interesting question.

I accept that conquered and stolen mean the same thing in this regard, as in the land was forcibly taken. To even attempt to correct that would mean returning the land to whichever tribe previously held it. Are there homeowners here who would give that land back? Barring a few exceptions, my guess is almost nobody would do that or they would demand payment for it, which would be weird because they shouldnt have had it in the first place.

I 100% agree with the idea of teaching an honest retelling if the founding of the US, but pretty much every single country in existence was founded through or has done some sort of conquering, it's not a unique thing to the US in the least.

I can't help but think the "white people can't cook" remarks are made by people who haven't been in the American south. There's a reason southerners are so fat. Especially Louisiana.

It was stolen/conqueredthats just how s*** was back then. Im not saying its cool but throughout history lands all over have been conquered by other peoples.

And nobody alive today had anything to do with it. I know reminding everybody every year helps you feel nice and righteous on your high horses but its just one of those things. A tragic part of history we cant change.

Thanksgiving (for me) isnt about celebrating the genocide of the indigenous Americans. Its just a day to remember to be thankful for what I have.
