I just started playing DQ8 and I'm looking for advice on how to best level up my characters. I've heard it's best to just stick with 1 weapon so I'm probably gonna do swords for the hero.

I've also heard that courage is important to level up too.

What's the best way to allocate skill points early on?

Either do swords with Hero and axes with Yangus or do spears with Hero and hammer with Yangus because you need a metal slime killing ability. If you're playing 3DS and planning on doing the postgame dungeon you're better off doing staves for Jessica and Angelo.

You will want some multihit attacks for bosses, like falcon slash(swords) or multithrust(Spears) for the hero as well as twin dragon lash(whips) for Jessica. Yangus with axes has a good shot against metal slimes since once you get in the 40s metals are the only real way to level up with any sort of quickness. Bosses are pretty much psyche up as much as you can and hit as many times as possible. Sure later bosses can erase all your powering up but you can sneak some psyching up in, especially with an item later on.

That was my fave dragon quest. I dont remember it that well though.

iirc boomerangs were awesome. Maybe whips too.

Boomerangs are great for regular battles. With the hero I tend to spread his points around swords, boomerangs, and courage. Getting Omniheal helps alot.
