Im not saying your standards should be stupid low but what is the point in having high standards in anything? High standards leads to constant disappointment.

I have high standards for myself for some things but thats about it. Life is better with lower standards. I can enjoy things much more when my standards are lower from movies to video games. I wont get upset at every little thing that goes wrong. I wont get incredibly angry at other people that dont meet my high standards.

Lower standards = a better overall life. People who have high standards are usually Karens. That is my opinion anyway.

I kind of agree. I was raised with high academic and professional standards/expectations but absolutely none of the tools to achieve them. I coasted on "natural ability" until that ran out, then hit a wall very early in life. Not knowing how to get back on track led to a lot of misery and heartache until I simply decided not to care anymore.

I now embrace low standards that I easily and regularly crush, which has resulted in me being happy and living a fairly stable life. I don't think I would have been able to achieve that without lowering my standards; if I'm being frank, I probably would've killed myself had I not done that.

On the other hand, I do have a few relatively high standards about how I conduct myself, especially with regards to how I impact others and the world around me. I'm not trying to be a beacon of positivity and change the world or anything like that but there are a lot of things I'm no longer comfortable doing and I'd be very disappointed in myself if I did. I like to have a clear conscience when my head hits the pillow and meeting these standards makes that possible.

I completely agree. I came to this conclusion awhile ago, but it's hard to sell to others. I think it's something you grow into from years of adjusting the way your mind works. Im glad you got there, cause it's so much more chill lol. And it's way easier to be around people too. Cause the lower standards you have, the more you give yourself a break when viewing yourself through projecting on others as well.

I think it depends on the context.

For example, I have high standards for boots as I don't want them to fall apart on me after a year. Same with tools, computer hardware, etc.
Even relationships I want us both to make each other happy, regardless of other factors.

Otherwise, lower standards are better.

I think you're thinking too deep with it lol. He's not saying accept toxic people into your life. I think of it more as make the qualities you just said more important than shallow qualities. People have the wrong high standards.

Absolutely agree. I think it really is an age thing.

CORRECT. What I underlined is extremely important and the main point. Of course, I want to have high standards for myself, my morals, my SO, etc. Even the SO thing doesnt need to be too high or you will just be alone unless you are OK with that like me. (I dont have high standards, I just like being alone lol.)

Setting high standards for everyday random people will do nothing but make your life miserable. You will grow to hate everyone because of it. This is true for things as well. You will hate things like most video games to most movies to most jobs. Having those kind of standards for everything is how you have a miserable life.
