Orcs are fucking BLIND. They have a range of vision about 5 degrees wide and 3 feet long. You can just straight up run up to one directly in front of it and stealth kill it.

I mean I guess it's kind of an old game at this point but still, lol.

It's a real tough slog after ghost of tsushima, where all this stuff was refined. But it has some cool moments.

I haven't played Shadow of War, but the stealth in Ghost of Tsushima is as bad as how you describe it for SoW.

GoS has decent to good swordplay, but the enemy AI during stealth is so bad.

It's not that old. Certainly not so old that it excuses one of the central mechanics being shitty.

And lore-wise, Orcs have excellent vision, especially in the dark, so it's just all round bad.

The stealth in Tsushima is pretty bad but it's not as bad as this, trust me. At least in tsushima they can see reasonably far and with a decent spread, and you can't just rush straight in front of them to stealth kill most of the time.

And as you say even though the stealth is bad the swordplay is really satisfying. SoW definitely does not have satisfying sword play.

is this the sequel to the other Middle Earth game that was really well regarded, or am I thinking of something else?

Well there's been a few good ones. Battle for Middle Earth 2 was an RTS game that was really well regarded.

This one was controversial on release because it was loaded with microtransactions, but they've since unlocked it.

thanks for the answers.

yea, I was thinking about Shadow of Mordor since I heard it had an interesting enemy system, but I passed on getting it back in the day since I had a PS3, and they said that generation of consoles couldn't handle the enemy thing.

The enemy system is pretty interesting - there are commanders on the battlefield with strength's/weaknesses and if they take you out then they level up and there's a nemesis/revenge element - but all the "hol-up-a-minute" shit you have to do around it makes it pretty tedious.

Also every time you come across a commander there's a cutscene where the Orc tells you he's going to gut you in the belly or whatever. Sometimes it's just a one liner but honestly some of these orcs talk for a full fucking minute before you actually get to fight them, it's super annoying.
