I don't see it as "similar to religion" because the people who suggest this idea aren't saying we need to worship the programmers of the simulation or anything like that. They're just saying it's a possibility.

D. Life isn't a simulation, and even if it was that doesn't make sense as nobody says we should worship whatever is running a simulation.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

you're positive it's not a simulation?

Looking at the world and looking at how I played Sim City... yeah, this sounds legit. Abandon all hope.

Are you positive that it isn't?

But still, probably not. The logic is that if simulations are possible then there are untold trillions of simulations and even more simulations simulated by simulations into infinity. And yet we're the last of a line of simulations stretching across infinity as we haven't created a simulation yet? The odds of that are almost as astronomical as the odds of us being the actual universe using the logic of the "theory" so the better argument is that the endless simulation postulation is just bunk.

For all we know, the higher universes also took billions of years (or their equivalent of) to create one too. Until perhaps 200 years ago, would we have even thought a simulation of a universe was a possibility?

yes. i can just +1 your infinite. try me.

you were in a coma the whole time and someone will say 'wake up' and this will all go back to the way it was.

Who says our universe hasnt made a simulation? You assume humans on earth have to do it or nobody at all. There could be a civilization somewhere that already made one

That's the thing though, we tend to look at reality through the lens of our own experiences. Simulation theories arose after we developed computers, and I'll bet you new outlooks will form after other technological breakthroughs as well.

The simpler explanation is just that we live in the real universe.

And that's the realm of untestability to the utmost extreme. We have no way to prove or disprove that and likewise we don't have any basis in reality to believe that's the case either.

And at that point, there'd be no real point to even worry about it as we're so far down the ladder of simulations for it to even matter.
