  • Geodude or Onix?
  • I think it's awesome all Pokemon get shared EXP, but if I have less Pokemon on my team will they get more shared EXP? 50/25/25 vs 50/10/10/10/10/10, for example.
  • Do I need to worry about their Traits right now? For example I love having Abra, should I try to catch a couple of them to get the correct "Trait"? Whatever that may be.
  • How do YOU use your Pokemon collection? For me I always end up just using the ones I get at the start for pretty much that whole game and just sleep on the rest of them. How do I not fall into this trap?

Onix and Geodude both require trading to fully evolve so keep that in mind. Prefer Onix and its evo myself.

No idea

Doesn't really matter in game, personally the one thing I'd avoid is a nature actively detrimental to Abra being a fast special attacker, but that's just my own mind goblin and doesn't really matter for in game.

For new games I go with a team of only new pokemon. For remakes or replays I usually have a team planned out ahead of time, sometimes guys I've never used, sometimes not.

Hell @ me Ill trade, plus there is a trade board where people do trade evos.

I would say geodude as steelix requires a metal coat instead of a simple trade evo and onixs base attack stat is fucking abysmal.

Exp doesnt get lost, only gained. So in other words bonus xp for all your pokes.

I bother a little, I add a boost to their main attack stat. Makes grinding the e4 easier if you bother to do that for battle tower/tree or competitive. I generally dont bother for perfect natures for just ingame, except sword&sheild because of all the raid crap.

Old faves or new ones that look cool. I skipped out on pokemon for everything after gba until about 5/6 years ago, so playing through all the back games has been fun and kinda addicting tbh >_>

*the xp share and underground mean you can train up new pokes before each gym in like a half hour... use whatever you want.

I caught an Abra and an Onix already. I plan to use them as part of my main six. I just need to get a metal coat and hopefully I'll find someone to trade with so I can get Steelix. That same person will hopefully not mind helping me get an Alakazam.

Normally I hard agree, but base 45 Attack is baaad. That's as strong as Butterfree, physically. It's roughly half as strong as most fully evolved pokemon. You can probably make it through the game with just Magikarp, but why would you?

I'm like 100% sure graveler is outright better then Onix so yeah definitely Geodude. Onix is absolute trash. It looks big but has one of the lowest base atks in the game so it'll hit like a wet noodle while still getting one shot by half the things in the game.

* Geodude, cause Golem (base 120 Atk) > Steelix (base 95 Atk). Steelix's typing is pretty nice though, just be wary if you do go the Onyx route, it can be a bit of a pain to get Metal Coat to evo it.

Also, make sure you have someone you can trade evo your Graveler with at lv 25, otherwise you'll be stuck with it, which is no good.

* Exp is split like this: 100/50/50/50/50/50. Adding / reducing members on your team won't increase / decrease the amount. Leveling is also normalized in this game, so lower level pokemon will get more exp than a higher leveled member.

* Don't worry about going for perfect "traits" (aka. Natures) right now. Worry about that in the post game after you beat the E4 when you have more resources available to you.

If you're particularly anal about natures, just get one that's 'good enough' like +Sp. Atk or +Speed without lowering your main stat, like your Sp. Atk.

* I basically just try to use new stuff that I haven't dabbled with in previous playthroughs. Iunno, kinda personal preference I guess.

Steelix is really cool, but you have to trade an Onix with a Metal Coat for it to evolve. So you can't just toss it up on the GTS and get what you want. Not a problem if you have some one to play with.

As far as other things...
-Natures are pretty impactful, but Onix tend to be rare and difficult to catch, so cycling through them looking for a beneficial nature would be a terrible pain (IIRC, they also take longer than normal to hatch from an egg. Onix is a pain in the ass, is what I'm saying, and it's really terrible until you evolve it. Steelix is pretty decent and, IMO, much cooler than Golem). It would be much easier with Geodude, but there's no need to worry too much about it unless you want to battle competitively at which point you won't see Golem or Steelix except in really low tiers.

As for how I play, I really like to experiment with new mons. I have a fondness for Grass types, personally, but I try to get a somewhat balanced type load-out. Try to avoid building a team with too many common weaknesses(particularly to powerful offensive types like Ground, Ice, Fire, etc.) unless you're patient.

Questions about Berries -

  • I think it let me Water them twice. Does this help out?
  • How long do they take the grow?
  • Are there any I should start growing right now to help out? Like some that will take awhile for me to be able to buy in a Store.

Um Leppa Berries I think are the most useful, cause they work like ethers, but I don't really worry about berries until I get fly and find a patch of soil close to a Pokemon Center.

Alright, I just got sucked into the Underground BS. Talked to a guy, he was all like, "Yo, try this," and it just automatically took me there. Now I've been here for about an hour and don't know how to leave. I have a X/40, and I think that's for Artifacts. Do I need to find 40 f'n Artifacts before I can leave? I've been to a bunch of the rooms, seen some cool Pokemon I can't catch, and I keep finding Statues to use at my Secret Base, whatever the fuck that is. I tried to Escape Rope out, but I'm not allowed

Ah, not Cut.

after getting Cut theres a short side quest you can do in the same area. Theres an entrance to the cave on the right-most side of cycling road, not hidden. Go to the deepest part of the cave and find a girl with pink hair. Youll trigger an escort mission similar to the one with Cheryl in Eterna Forest. Its optional, and not much reward iirc but its cool, at least. While youre there, try finding that hidden cave on the left side of cycling road, so you at least know where it is for later. In platinum youre able to explore that side of the cave immediately, but in DP and Im assuming these remakes, you need strength in order to progress deeper into the cave

So, is there a list in this game that tells me which Pokemon needs to be traded to reach it's final form?

Also, what's the name of that one Pokemon that starts off as a normal, and then can evolve a bunch of ways depending on what it's Holding when it reaches that level. I think it's a dog. Might be kind of fun sometime to build an entire team around them.

Eevee is the evolution Pokemon you mentioned. In D/P its only available post-game, unless youre playing Platinum (the superior way to play through Sinnoh).

Guessing youre in Hearthome City. Its just a dumb little mini game, I dont even think its necessary.

Also TC is this your first Pokmon game? Sinnoh is great when experienced through Platinum, and idk how well-done the Diamond/Pearl remakes are. Regardless of how you end up feeling about Brilliant Diamond when youre done with it, please play a couple more games in the franchise.

FireRed/LeafGreen/Lets Go
HeartGold/SoulSilver
Emerald
Platinum
Black/White
Black/White 2
X/Y

pick like any 2 or 3 of these to play through before making up your mind on Pokmon. And thats not even considering the excellent spin-off games and well-done modern romhacks

In Diamond/Pearl you dont even fight the Hearthome Gym Leader until much later on. (Again, Platinum is way better lol)

I think you MIGHT need to visit the contest hall to trigger an event, but if not, to progress, use the Eastern gate at the bottom of the city. In one of the houses, an NPC gives you a Shell Bell, which is a pretty good held item, though. Pick that up before you leave.

Or just play Platinum ;)

And speaking of trading, do I need that monthly subscription to trade?

Is there a better way to use the Hidden Item tech? To find the Items on the ground. You cant move with it opened to full screen.

Moo Milk is still the OP healing item, right?

You can get Nincada in post-game because it's a part of the National Pokedex. You might be able to get it through the Grand Underground before that but I'm not sure on that. You do need Nintendo Switch Online to battle/trade.
