All the different dollar bills have the same green color, and all the coins are the same shade of gray or brown without any easy-to-read numbers on them.

Compare that to the Euro, where all the bills have different colors:
* 5 Euro bill = grayish blue
* 10 Euro bill = red
* 20 Euro bill = dark blue
* 50 Euro bill = orange
* 100 Euro bill = green
* 200 Euro bill = yellow
* 500 Euro bill = purple

And all the Euro coins have a large number on one side that easily lets you determine their value, on top of having different colors or shapes.

I am literally looking at some leftover dollar coins from my vacation right now. There's a large gray coin with a face on one side and an eagle on the other. If I look closely, I can see "quarter dollar" written in tiny print on the bottom of one side of the coin. There is literally not a single number on this coin.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

It makes it so much easier though. When my billfold was full of dollar bills on my vacation last week, I couldn't see what's what from the top. With my Euro bills, I can easily see what's what just by looking at the colors.

They made the numbers and portraits larger and added colors to everything other than the $1. I'll give you that the coins are all pretty much the same other than size but nobody uses those anyway.

Coins are easy enough to tell apart just on their size and color. Pennies are brown, dimes are tiny, quarters are big, and nickels are smaller than quarters and have smooth edges.

It used to be worse.

Back in the 70s, someone thought it would be a good idea to redesign the 1 Dollar coin to be both the same size and color as the quarter (the 1 Dollar coin was huge before that). Probably part of the reason why dollar coins never really caught on.

is that supposed to absolve american money of its problems?

Let's take your post seriously and assume hypothetically that TC DOES have vision problems.

there are many americans with vision problems who still need to be able to use money. did you know that there are countries where the cash was designed intelligently so that even blind people can use it? they can tell bills apart because they have distinguishing properties that can be felt, like different sizes for example.

You don't really need a magnet. Steel pennies weren't brown, they were grey, nowadays most of them are rusty. Well, the survivors. Good condition steel pennies are worth a lot of money themselves.

Not necessarily. Part of why governments would pull older coins out of circulation when they contained gold and silver was so they had coins that contained the actual denomination worth, or near enough, rather than saying it was worth, 1$ but the silver content being 2 or 3. So yeah, there would be been 25 cents worth of silver, and the rest of the coin would be made up of copper-nickel or whatever they used at the time.
