What are you trying to hang up? this. Drywall anchors can support a lot of weight. also they should be spaced every 16 on Center or every two feet. But as someone who had done a lot of Renos it often doesnt work like that since people suck at framing . --- "Theres still a lot of booze I aint drunk and a lot of pretty thoughts I aint thunk" https://files.catbox.moe/gqwlkg.jpeg ~ by JimCarrysToe. Every stud should be 16" apart, assuming you live in america and the house was built to code. As far as finding one... No way without a stud finder or cutting holes will be 100% accurate. The knock test will lie to you.

If you can't procure a stud finder, you can use a small finishing nail hammered into the wall where you believe a stud is. You'll tell by the resistance it encounters. Useful if it's going to be covered by a painting or large object. Just make sure you can pull it out after. And avoid doing this near electrical or plumbing.

The problem with finding a stud from the corner is many times a carpenter DOES put every stud 16 inches on the center of each 2x4 BUT is that the corner they started on?
So your best bet is usually finding an outlet, determining which side the stud is on, find the middle of that stud and then measure in 16's from there --- http://bnuiransder.tumblr.com/ So much A R T ... Copied to Clipboard!

I can assure you it's 12 to 16. and sometimes, but rarely, 24. Depends on how old the house is. Njolk posted... Ok if I understand this, every corner is a stud and every electrical outlet is mounted to a stud not every electrical box is mounted to studs. GEM boxes can be cut into drywall without the need of a stud to mount to.
