Sometimes I make shirts that I send to online stores to print but I need some help in making sure I get the colors right

Typically Adobe Illustrator.

The problem I have is I design it the way I want, with the colors I want, but then I send it to the t-shirt company and when I get the product the colors are normally darker on the t-shirt.

So how would I know how to align the CMYK color profiles with whatever they have on their printer? Would they be able to tell me something about their printer that I can adjust settings within Illustrator to match?
