1. People communicate on message boards
2. Certain posts are consistent with other posts despite spatial and temporal displacement
3. There could be reason to believe this consistency is actually coherence
4. Users project, in addition to the pragmatic message, various levels of meaning that coheres with posts throughout the board
C. ???

How do you plan to connect these? Im really interested in using qualitative methodology to examine digital information but I would like to see how you connect the dots here.
Not sure. It's just a seed of an idea I've had for a while. The goal is to generalize to communication broadly so the digital part is less relevant.

But I guess the connection is just in the idea that the additional meaning you get from discovering how some messages cohere with other message could be evidence for something like "being able to detect information from a vast distance"

Dude. It's like 200 years of philosophy. I'm not gonna be able to tell you exactly what it is. Also no one even agrees on what it is generally.

If you want a basic version it's just the idea that truth comes from things cohering with each other, instead of things being based on a foundation. Coherence is, I think, a relation between a group of propositions where their individual truth reinforces the truth of the other propositions.

hello?

do you know how much shitty mlp fanfiction i've had to see because it was in the form of greentext? how do you have any reservations whatsoever?

also anonymity allows people to rip apart your work, and that's the healthiest thing for you. be destroyed and be reborn into the writer you want!

i can only cajole you so hard from here. get that shit out there. i had no idea.

i can't think of a healthier atmosphere than no-holds-barred for an aspiring writer. you need to come face-to-face with every shitty bad critic take that will exist so you'll know what to expect. /lit/ is full of people up their own assholes and is therefore ideal.

Thats not really my specific area of interest, i was just curious how you connected the concepts. Maybe a preliminary concept analysis would be good, along with a visual diagram? Could be useful to establish a baseline of what it is, and what it is not.

Communication theories would be a good place to start, but I would like to see how you plan to divorce the digital aspect of it. Psychology of digital communication and in person communication is inherently tied to this, and you may want to see if you can find what they have in common.

Could (possibly) pull from forums vs face to face interview data on a given topic and use the preliminary concept analysis as the framework for your discussion.

Assuming this is more of a blog type of post and not something to be published. Still interesting but collaboration with content experts would be beneficial if that is the end goal.
No one wants to collab with me.

As for the rest of the post... That is a lot of stuff to do but maybe it's worth doing?

I think this ended up being me gauging how good the idea is and if it would be well recieved

Adding to that, even the role of anonymity needs to be discussed. Might be good to say, look at the level of personal information disclosed on the forum you pull data from. Generally, broadly speaking - you are probably going to see more consistency in communication with platforms where people typically disclose more about themselves and in person communication. On the other hand, many, many message boards do not require any significant level of disclosure of personal info, which may impact level of information disclosure of incredibly personal information as it is perceived as not identifiable.
I mean of course there are liars and trolls and other concerns across digital platforms Im going out on a limb here and saying that you arent stating people are consistently and frequently genuinely admitting to sniffing farts of someone theyre attracted to though lol

I think its a very interesting concept to explore and may even ultimately tie into pattern recognition and how we use intuition.
What does it have to do with pattern recognition? Ostensibly the flow of the board is arbitrary (unless you monsters really are posting to some kind of ordered rhythm) so I think the idea that someone can pick up on something that was said on, say, page 3, by reading into other messages on page 1, and then write a post cohering with the page 3 post... seems to have nothing to do with patterns...
