Do you plan ahead and try to spread it out among coworkers before leaving? Do you usually not have that much to come back to anyway? Do you suck at it and never take vacations for that reason (i.e. me)?

My old role I would do option 1. We largely did the same things so it was easy to have redundant coverage most of the time and I would generally not come back to much actual work, just a lot of inbox clean up. My current role is pretty much the exact opposite, we are short handed and there is almost no redundancy so it would be almost impossible for other people to cover my stuff while I'm out, so I've been option 3 for a while now.

I am excellent at it, doesn't take me long at all to get caught up. What I do is go to my email inbox, right click it, and select "Delete All".

Pretty much this. There's no one in my crew that can do what I do, so they do their best, keep track of certain things. When I get back, I deal with whatever has to be dealt with that is coming in that day and chip away at the back log of work. There's some stuff I know I can let slip for a bit so that gets lowest priority and I try and work through the more time sensitive stuff first.

What's a vacation?
