this happened twice when i worked in retail. no pepper spray but people just loaded up carts and smashed out of a side exit and jogged to their cars. both times it was middle aged white women

I appreciate the insight. I never would have guessed. I am so sorry for the clerks who were attacked. I guess it is easier to get away during the day?

We're not talking about a "random robbery" if there's a group/gang of 50-80 individuals pulling repeated and coordinated smash and grabs.

In the case of the picture, it was the repeated looting combined with the feeling that the police couldn't help that led desperate business owners down this particular path. Yes, it's more complicated than that, but the underlying conditions are close enough that it merits mention.

Ah yes, of course. Screw the employees livelihoods, a criminal's well-being is more important. We need less stores in business, that will stop all this.

I'm not quite sure what's going through your head right now, but I think you're making a whole bunch of assumptions.

My point, and I'll make it absolutely crystal clear, is that if a large group of individuals thinks that it's a smart idea to continue doing coordinated smash and grabs, and if the police are unable to resolve the situation, people will start taking shots at the mob to protect their businesses. Target employees won't, but private business owners will. I'm saying that this is a dangerous game they are playing that could get people killed.

This is the same group that flash robbed the Louis Vuitton store in Walnut Creek. Same tactic and all. Idk why they would go to LV then Nordstrom a few days later, but whatever. Waay too many people to just flash rob though. Somebody is going to end up talking.

Too bad nothing is going to be done because the cops aren't allowed to do their job out here

Why aren't cops allowed to do their jobs? Looks like people got arrested so clearly some of them were allowed. Is there a specific CA bill or memorandum within the department or are you just blaming "defund the police" rhetoric?

That's funny, because I've lived in California all my life, and I've seen plenty of police officers doing their jobs plenty of times, including recently. What would make you say they're not able to "do their job'? What, by your definition, is the "job" they are not being allowed to do?

Sf and other Bay Area cities are doing "catch and release" because of covid. (so they say) Since they know they wont go to jail, they feel that they got free reign to do whatever.

Capture and release has been a thing in the Bay Area for years now. I've seen SF go to shit literally and figuratively. Crime is outrageous and the ones doing the crime are out in a day. You can keep your "rhetoric" because I live here.

Nothing in that opinion piece even mentions prop 47. Cops are still allowed to arrest for a misdemeanor if it's done in their presence. So again, where are you getting this idea that cops aren't allowed to do their job? Sentencing isn't part of a cops job description.

You can have your semantics argument if you want it, but at end of the day, I walk pass City Hall daily with drug dealers offering drugs, and people shooting up in front of City Hall all day with cops actively patrolling.

You can take whatever articles you read for fact, but that's not the reality of San Franciscans.

Same shit happened at the Nordstrom at The Grove last night here in West LA, 20 people in a flash mob

Some nearby cops heard the commotion and pursued one of the vehicles into South Cen-- I mean, South Los Angeles where they arrested 3 people I think
