Thats the hardest thing about translating literature to film, from what Ive heard; making up for the bulk of exposition lost due to it existing in characters thoughts.

Lynch utilized it so much and the film is so long, it was distractingmaybe thats not the best word. I need to see it again, though. Its been at least 20 years and Ive changed a lot.

This type of storytelling takes an acquired taste. Like Maliks films. Some find them dreadfully dull. At least Dune had the hard sci-fi element going for it.
