My one-way commute is about 45 minutes (90 total for both ways). It's also just a lot of idling in congested traffic and getting awful gas mileage as a result.

these long commutes are often because housing near the jobs is super expensive as well. it all feeds into a system of making things worse and worse for everyone who is not wealthy.

In a city like Boston or New York your own car really is not a necessity and this is perfectly do-able.

Yeah I'm about an 45-70 minutes from home and I was spending about $180 over the summer. Gas has gone down a bit, but I'm still around $160 a month for gas. Shit sucks.
