Is DICE finished

It's 2021 and Halo might be the savior of multiplayer shooters

I only played 8hrs out of my 10hr early access trial and that was more than enough to just quit the whole fucking thing and go back to BF1 and reinstall BF4.

side note afaik Joe's probably the only youtuber shitting hard on 2042 while everyone else is doing the opposite giving DICE a pass or still simping for EA, which is absolutely absurd.

I saw gameplay of one of the maps on there and it looked like it was for 300 players or BR. took forever for them to find players.

honestly everything looks like a beta version of BF4

I've been loving 2042 tbh, already level 32. There is a lot of room for improvement but it's the most fun I've had with a shooter in a long time.

This like never happens though, there's only maybe one really big map but for the most part combat is constantly happening somewhere.

Big maps have been a thing since 1942.

And there is a Rush-style game mode where you're guaranteed to be in action non-stop.

I never really played Battlefield before but did a couple of matches of 2042 a try. It seemed okay. The operator system was obviously a mistake and looks stupid but it worked okay for me. Maybe I was on a good time. The shipyard level was fun. The one I played afterwards that had beached cargo ships wasn't as fun.

It does a terrible job introducing new players though. A cringe story cutscene followed by a terrible bot match that explains absolutely nothing.

Wouldn't pay full price for it but I'm not a big multiplayer guy.

Must've been Hazard mode because literally one match alone will turn anyone away from playing it ever again.

So in actuality it's $70 for Conquest mode >__________>

It's been fine. People are upset because it "has specialists and I don't want COD or Overwatch" (even though the specialists are almost meaningless and just confer one perk and one piece of equipment, not enough to radically change how each one plays, plus there's no limit on how many people can play as who.

Game hasn't even formally launched yet, and yeah on the early access day there were some server issues but DICE actually cleared them up relatively quickly (at least communicated it, too, unlike Rockstar with the GTA Trilogy release).

There are some performance and rubberbanding issues but they've already identified these to be fixed in an upcoming patch.

Like for Battlefield launches it's pretty standard. They've always had issues, sometimes really obnoxious ones (I'll always remember 2's server-side memory leak after they rescaled the rank requirements).

Halo already kind of did. Infinites a wholly inferior product to the MCC.

The fact that I have to pay $15 to make my Warthog blue disqualifies it from being a great game tbqh.

It's fine, they just toned down a *lot* of cosmetic customization options and made the teams feel generic.

Map design is really great and leads to really dynamic matches, but visually they are underwhelming - there's enough detail to set the scene, but not enough detail to really make it feel like you're in a lived in world. So from an immersion perspective it's really weak, but from a gameplay perspective the maps are fine.

Also people don't like things like the weapon and specialists are common between teams. I don't mind this *too* much, in previous Battlefield games you usually unlocked the ability to choose whatever weapon you wanted after a certain point anyway. But it honestly does feel like a lazy design choice. The story is also dumb as shit, I hate the idea of "notepads" ("non-patriates") and their voiceovers... you just don't feel like you're fighting for the US or Russia in either case, just playing a really huge first person shooter game.

It's great for casual play though imo. Really easy to get in to, really fun to fuck around in. I don't know if they fixed it yet but the hovercraft is OP as shit, you put the 40 mm grenade launcher on there and you and your friends can just party van it up. Plus, probably by glitch, you can actually drive the thing up buildings, which I wind up doing every chance I can. Funniest shit ever.

Anyway these are just snippits. It's not perfect, there are performance issues (though they just released a hotfix for some of those). If you want more info or have questions about specific features let me know.

I haven't touched Hazard Zone mode yet at all, and have only dabbled in Portal (played enough matches to unlock a customization option for my Player Card...).

People don't care about whether the game is good anymore. It's all about that dopamine drip feed. Dangle the ability to chance the color of a vehicle and suddenly it matters even though you could never before. At this point if the game DIDN'T have some sort of customization people would quit after a month to go back to the game that gives them a drip feed even if the moment-to-moment is way less fun.

Hell, it was either EA or Activision that flat out patented a matchmaking system that pairs people who just bought something cool with people who didn't specifically to try and bait them into buying it.

BF1 blew me away on PS4 when it first came out because it was built entirely from scratch for last gen and rarely had lag. Doesn't mean there were no stupid clipping and physics bugs but it was jam packed with content across the 4 classes including multiple loadout slots.

That was an exception though. 4 and V were shitshows at launch but 2042 is a whole new level of suck.

ya but they had promise. 2042 has some major design flaws, major steps back from previous games. I think the main takeaway is Dice of old is no more...
