Okay, THIS was the Vexen battle that took me forever as a kid. The boss of Twilight Town, at the gates. But this time it was over quickly for me. After two miserable attempts where I died pretty quickly, I beat him fairly handily on my third attempt.

Repliku 3 was easy. After a quickly failed attempt still using the deck I used for Vexen, I swapped to my standard battle deck and took him down with little trouble.

I know this is Meaghan Martin (Jessica from Until Dawn) as Namine. Not sure if this is what I was expecting her voice to sound like. I really liked her when I played the GBA version, but I never quite knew what I wanted her voice to sound like. I understand that this is her voice for most of the series but I'm actually more interested to hear Brittany Snow in KH2.

I figured it must have been my strategy because before I went to grind I looked up the recommended level for the fight and I was significantly higher than it already.

Levels don't matter as much in Chain of Memories. It's all about the cards, and RNG can supremely dick you over in that regard.

Repliku 4 wasn't too bad for me!

But I went into the Larxene 2 battle not realizing that was the trigger and still had my deck for Repliku which was stacked with Lightning... amazingly I actually got her down to her final health bar!! So I figured that once I replaced those with something else I stood a really good chance... Nope. I'm on like my 5th try and I've done progressively worse each time. :O How does that happen?!

Larxene 2 beated. Yeesh. I think overall she was harder than Vexen. Vexen was pretty simple once I figured out a good strategy. Larxene I kinda had to brute force it and hope I didn't make too many mistakes with the timing of my item cards.

Beat Axel with the luckiest of lucky breaks at the end of the fight (was down to almost no HP and almost no cards).

I played WAY too much today (but at least I got a lot else done too). My eyes hurt. Time for bed.

Yeah I lied and did end up doing Marluxia 1 last night and he was fairly easy. From what I've read, people consider it to be one of the hardest fights in the game in the GBA version but one of the easiest endgame fights in ReCOM. I wonder what changed? Personally I don't remember it. I remember doing Marluxia 2 several times even after beating him once just to hear Simple and Clean before I finally downloaded the MP3 lol

And I did the entire final Marluxia fight (both forms consecutively) on my first try. I guess you could say I "got gud."

Ending cutscene was done really well and I liked the KH2 teasers that weren't present in the original version.

Half an hour into Riku's story I think Mickey has already had more dialogue than he did in the entirety of KH1.

Also Zexion and Lexaeus sound perfect. Especially Lexaeus. Exactly how I thought he'd sound.

Add me to the Riku camp for CoM. I personally don't enjoy the deck building in CoM so being able to just focus on the gameplay and figure out the strengths of whatever the game gives me is infinitely more enjoyable.

So I went into Riku's story with the intention of doing the worlds in the same order as I did on the GBA like I did with Sora's story. So I went to my GBA cart to check... Wait, why are there two very different save files? Oh yeah, I let my friend borrow this in high school. Which one is mine? Dammit Lewis! We did Sora's story in the same order but not Riku's. I assumed mine was the first one, so that's the order I'm going with. Interestingly we were at very different levels and did the worlds in a different order, but had nearly identical play clocks (I'm talking within seconds).

Had some trouble with Jafar because I just couldn't catch his lamp. Weird, I had no problem with it in Sora's story. Vexen and Repliku were tricky but I did them in just a few tries each.

Riku's story is so fast-paced. Not just the story itself, but the battles too.

I like not having to worry about configuring the deck but I don't like not being able to heal on command, nor worlds where I end up with weak cards.

I definitely don't remember duels from the GBA version, but I could be wildly wrong. Are those new? I'm not sure if I remember Darkness Power.

What the fuck is this Zexion battle? First off, I don't even remember fighting him in the GBA version. For some reason I thought you never fought him directly. Second, I can't stop him from stealing my cards because whenever I try to 0 out that slight he just takes my 0 card. And I'm left with like 3 weak cards and can't make a dent.

Yeah the Zexion battle in ReCoM is new.

In the Final Mix of KH2 They add optional Boss fights against all the Organization members and since Zexion didn't have one at the time they had too come up with one and incorporated parts of it into ReCoM.

I'm struggling badly with Riku's final boss. Hell, I think he has two forms from what I remember and I can't even get past the first form after like 20 tries. And I think I've got the right strategy it's just... man I REALLY don't want to have to grind right now...

So what do you think? If anyone was interested in playing CoM, would you recommend them the GBA or the PlayStation one?

Honestly I'd have to play the GBA one again to really say for sure and I'm so over it at this point.

That being said I was more invested in the story of this one than I was of KH1. Not just the framing story, but world-by-world as well. While the Disney stories in the original were mostly just chopped-up versions of the films they were based on, in this one they actually had a running theme and some of the endings were kinda nice. Axel, Riku and Namine are probably my three favorite KH-original characters so far and two of them weren't even in the first one, and the other got some great focus in this one. I hope all three have large roles in KH2. I know Roxas and the rest of the Organization XIII get introduced in the next one as well.

I threw KHII a nom for December Game of the Month so when I start playing it depends on if it gets drawn or not. Frankly if it gets drawn I'm more than happy to play something else for a week.

Something I never mentioned. While I was on my ragequit in the first game, I had a dream once where I was playing a Jungle Book world. I don't remember much about it but I could hear the field theme very clearly, which was an instrumental of The Bare Necessities, like what Atlantica and Halloween Town did.

Come to look it up, it's never been done, but datamining shows the remnants of a scrapped one in BBS.

Began KH2 tonight. Made it up to just before the Struggle... Christity Christ Christ Christ this one is starting SO slowly. I like the inclusion of Setzer, but why not make Roxas' friends FF characters? Those three could have easily been Zell, Rinoa, and... I'll say Steiner, from what I can tell so far.

Every single person linked to Sora forgot who he was during CoM due to Namine's meddling with his memories.
