It's shit, and the reason the outcome of trials in the U.S. are a coin flip.
You need a proper legal expert to examine proof and evaluate whether the evidence provided by the prosecution is enough to prove something beyond reasonable doubt.
Trashy Joe from the trailer park is not going to cut it, leave proof examination to actual judges, not a damn panel of eveyday people that will always be harsher to people different from them, and lenient to those similar. I guarantee fairer trials if you do this.

There are lots of problems with the justice system. While I agree that how jurors are selected may be flawed, I think doing away with the jury system altogether would be a detriment and would not improve the overall quality of justice.

Actually the idea is to prevent this. Normal people without legal training will just go with their gut feeling and emotions, hence why they keep sentencing minorities and being lenient with whites.
