So why is there a long ass line just to eat there then?

It's actually good, just not good enough to wait that long or pay that much for it.

These casual dining places which were a step up from your dive ass diner but a step below gourmet were more reasonably priced about 15-20 years ago. Debatably better but I think that's a myth based on nostalgic happy memories.

Its a good place to hang out and have beers and appetizers. I wouldn't go there for the food alone.

This. Legit if you go to one and the food is significantly bad it's probably that specific resturant that sucks more than the chain itself.

I live in Los Angeles, there's not a lot around but I figured it was because it was dying. The wait time for this Applebee's is 2 hours for goodness sakes lol. Never been to an Applebee's, but I thought it was some dine in restaurant me and my wife can just chill after watching Ron's Gone Wrong at the movies. Now we have to find some other restaurant because we don't want to wait that long lol.

There are many very similar restaurants that exist for the same price point but offer better quality food. Those other restaurants offer some sort of gimmick that they specialize in to make them more enticing. Applebee's only specializes in mediocrity. If you have other options, then go there.

Lobby hours hur durr only open till 4 or 5 due to short staff.....even then shit still stayed open, at least before 2020.

The meme is that it is bland, cookiecutter sports bar dining. Which isnt a bad thing. I enjoy that kind of food and i take my kid there sometimes. I like their blue mountain dew.

Oh yeah that's not because it's busy. They just don't have the staff cause lol at working for Applebees at minimum wage cause "Tips make up for it"

Well the restaurant is packed to the brim (went inside to see the wait time, and I can see some Covid violations here) but I can definately see if they're understaffed for why the wait time is long.

The food isn't worth it. I'm not huge on chains myself but there are so many better options. Applebee's is where you go when you have a large party of people and everyone wants something different.

I used to be a regular there. It was close to work, and I would just stop in there for dinner a couple days a week before going home.

The food isnt top quality but it is cheap, as well as their drinks. Half-priced appetizers were great when I was a poor college student. Chicken wings and mozzarella sticks are hard to fuck up even if it is basically frozen/microwaved.
