It's been slow to flush these past few days, but it did flush - just made a slow "glug-a-lug" at the end instead of clearing quickly. Now it doesn't flush at all, the water just rises to near the point of overflow and slooooooowly drops back down until there's almost no water in the bottom. It's useless for anything other than taking a leak.

Plunger? No luck, tried multiple times. Auger? I have a 3 foot cheapo, but whatever's blocking the pipes must be deeper down than that. Drain cleaner is right out, for obvious reasons.

Ugh, I don't need a plumber bill right now

Apartment. I'm gonna go down to the office tomorrow and see if it's covered by maintenance, hopefully there's no charge for clogs caused by "user error" lol

You can also try plunging some hot water through it. If it's draining slowly it's almost clear.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this one is on my girlfriend. She loooves those wet wipe things, even though I've told her multiple times that if she HAS to use one, only flush one at a time. Ideally she wouldn't use them at all, since it caused this same problem in our last place too.

Try this. Turn off the water supply to the toilet. Try to remove as much water as you can. Pour some dish soap and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then get a bucket of very hot water, not boiling but the hottest you can get from your shower/bath. Then dump the water in from standing height.

If it's draining slowly, then the pressure from that should push the clog through.

Yeah flushable wet wipes are not flushable despite what the packaging says. She needs to stop doing that.

Use regular TP to start off, then use a wipe or two at the very end and throw them in the trash. There shouldnt be any shit on it it she is doing a halfway decent job with the TP.

I know it's kind of gross, but they really need to be tossed into a bag and thrown out.

This seemed to clear it up! Still not flushing quite the way I'd like it to (just judging from sound), but it's flushing. I'll keep an eye on it.

They're a waste of money, when there's a shower right over there.

Keep dumping hot water down there until it clears up. Drano has never cleared a drain as well as a stock pot of almost-boiling water.

I used to flush wet wipes. So, here's what's likely happened: A few piled up and got caught somewhere near the exit pipe of the toilet, causing more to get caught/stick, until you have a full on clog. They're too deep for augers to fix without removing the bowl and most chemicals afaik won't burn through them.

You'll need to remove the toilet itself and auger the actual drain/pull them out or call a plumber to do it. If you use wet wipes, never flush them, even if they claim to be flushable, because they aren't.

The plunger needs to be submerged in water before you plunge. Wait until the water drops down but not so much that there isnt any, and start plunging.

A few years ago I blocked the toilet during a dinner party and had no tools to fix it.

For some reason the home owners loved Africa and had some wooden shields and spears on the bathroom wall, I managed to unblock it using an ornamental spear.

So yeah, just use a spear.

there's also another legendary story. never flush tampons down the toilet. they had to call someone in to fix the septic. everyone got a letter explaining not to flush nothing but toilet paper and human waste.

it happened about 10-12 years ago.

this happened in the apartment complex.
