I should probably mention upfront that she's 18, and no, I'm not just making this up because 18-year-old girls seem to be the trend here right now. But I have a media-related job and we often get college students that are into things like journalism/acting/production/etc. coming through here from a university that's very close to us. One of them is this girl that's related to one of my work friends somehow. He knows her dad or something like that.

Anyway, she's a theater major, so she's here a lot and I think she's actually trying to get an internship. I got acquainted with her some months ago. She's a chill person, but she got this sort of dorkiness to her like she hasn't talked to a lot of guys yet. We'd just talk about stuff that we liked here and there. Then she eventually got my number and started wanting to hang out with me outside of work. And then people that we know started joking that she likes me and all that. But man, now she kind of follows me everywhere. Sometimes she'll even sit around and wait for me. She tells me about everything that goes on with her at college and wants to know about how my day was like, what I do at home, if I want to do things with her when I'm free. She laughs at every single thing I say, even when I'm not trying to be funny.
But the other day, she tells me about how she has a crush on one of her professors. She tops it off by saying something like "He'll never go for me. He's way older than me and I still look like a child."

I tell this story to my friend over the phone later on and he starts laughing and explaining to me that she did that purely to fish a compliment out of me and see how I'll react to her talking about another guy. Apparently, this is a common tactic amongst "girls with no game," as he put it hahaha. He says that she has a thing for me but she's too shy to express it. Just yesterday, I run into her and she starts randomly talking about this professor again and how she have his class that day. I just tried to dance around the whole conversation.

Look, as of October, I'm 27 years old and I've always preferred girls around my age and older. She's an adorable kid, and honestly, I do enjoy our conversations sometimes. But it was always more of a little sister-type thing to me. If she does have some kind of crush, I think I just have to be straightforward with her and let her down gently.

She seems to see you as a friend: if she was crushing on you, she probably wouldn't have told you she had a crush on one of her professors.
You seem to have a healthy conception of the relationship though.
