Was this something they were expecting all along from the beginning before it was distributed widely or stuff they are learning about the vaccine as we are going a long? How often and for how long are we supposed to be taking boosters anyways?

I mean the vaccines were never fool proof. So long as the coronavirus continues to thrive, ongoing efforts to control the disease becomes less and less effective as the virus becomes resistant to current medications meant to combat it in the first place. Scientists can keep making new vaccines all they want, its effectiveness means nothing if there are people out there purposely spreading the disease either because lack of awareness or dumbfuckery.

More unvaccinated people = more bodies where the virus can freely mutate into a vaccine-resistant form.

It was no secret these vaccines would lose their effectiveness with time. That's the whole point of the booster.

I dont know bro i never took the flu shot in my adult life until this year nor was i ever expected to.

yeah there was a drop from 90% to 50% for infection, but protection for severe disease and death held up

it's mostly to do with delta being freakishly quick at multiplying in the nasal passage (where an arm-injected vaccine won't have produced many antibodies) so yeah, a lot more vaxed people are having sniffle-breakthroughs compared to the alpha variant but pretty much nobody vaxed is being hospitalized or dying
