Microsoft has been accused of deliberately making it harder to switch the default browser away from Edge in Windows 11.
In Windows 10, users were allowed to switch the default browser to any pre-installed alternative with one drop-down menu. In Windows 11 that option has been removed, with users forced to choose the default for different file types, such as .html, .htm and .pdf, making the entire process much more complicated and confusing for end users.

Why do all these web sites and companies love to take basic customization and preference options and always make them tougher to find/adjust?

Because forcing users into their software/services ecosystems generates more profit for them.

as if youd even want to use Chrome in 2020/2021 anyway. Firefox, sure. But Edge > Chrome

also, it might be more clicks but if a user is confused by this they are a complete idiot, end of story. Sucks slightly for Firefox users sure but its not confusing in the least

Money.

It's easier for them to deliver the advertising and marketing dataminers through their browser of choice. It takes more time (and time = money by way of wages) to develop and troubleshoot these functions across many browsers.

Edge is better than Chrome...the only thing i dislike about edge is that the default search engine is bing, but i am pretty sure you can change that. I love microsoft edge.

Isn't Edge and Chrome basically the same browser now? Since they changed Edge to be based off of Chromium?

edge and firefox are better than chrome.

This just seems like shifting the balance between "so user friendly it's stupid" and "easy to customize".

i dont want a separate app just for PDFs. havn't used abode reader for like 5 years

Get new printer, update drivers. Still refuses to print anything but blank pages.

Yet the test print works and so does a print of a screenshot (fn+Prtsc)

And it doesn't ask you to save a document before printing, only to ask you to save another document when you try to print it.
