A. There will be more bedbugs in a home with lots of people because more are brought in. B. They are like fleas, as soon as they get brought in and have just enough to lay eggs they just take over.

bedbugs dont travel unassisted, you're not going to get an infestation of bedbugs by leaving out food like you would with ants. they're brought to the environment by a host.

My understanding is the host is passive and bedbugs choose.

You may be right but they are older than hominids. Wikipedia says
