No. I'm conflicted about Pokemon and its fanbase but I don't think it's dumb....

It was fun for its premise. Nothing groundbreaking, but certainly worth a watch.

I didn't see it because the trailers looked stupid and the few pages I've read of the book online was laughably bad.

It sure is a movie.

It's certainly not made poorly. Some of the scenes are actually real nice looking.

But the plot and themes are pretty much unsalvageable.

I've only seen the race part, and it looked cool.

Pretty sure it doesn't get better than that

I never watched the movie but I read the book and I gotta say I don't understand how the movie ended up getting trashed on so hard. like, the book is full of recognizable characters and locales, wild action scenes, and is just generally silly and over the top all the time. it's not like the book is great or anything but it seems to me like it should be perfect for adapting into a brain-turned-off sort of movie

what went wrong

This girl I dated begged me so much to watch it with her and when I did, I wasn't THAT impressed.

It was an enjoyable shallow popcorn movie but that's it. Not even close to the mindblowing cinematic event it was hyped as.

The movie's not trashed any harder than the book is. Nerds came out hard against the book before the movie came out, and most of the hatred that you see for the movie carried over from that.

I enjoyed the book and the movie.

I haven't bought it because I can't imagine it would be good. I did enjoy the first one.

I think this is a good way to describe my thoughts... The themes were muddy and insubstantial given the delivery

I mean don't forget the moral of the story.

Obsession with pop culture will ultimately be rewarded, but don't forget that the true reward comes when you have intimate knowledge of your celebrity hero's personal life.

I really like (in the movie) how everyone in the OASIS has the ability to create whatever avatar they want for themselves and 95% of them pick "licensed character".

Didn't the moral of the book differ slightly from the movie?

Not to my knowledge.

Honestly, the stated "moral" by the posthumous celebrity hero was essentially "touch grass for god's sake", but the main character didn't succeed in any respect by doing that.

Hmm I thought I read that the creator's ending message was different between the book and movie
