Many Native Americans do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims and other European settlers. To them, Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of their people, the theft of their lands, and the relentless assault on their cultures.

In Canada I find thanksgiving is a family holiday with an autumn theme rather than any connection to pilgrims and Indigenous "helping" one another.

That is generally the way it is celebrated in the US. Some older TV specials or grade school skits might mention the pilgrims, but for the most part most just treats it as an excuse to get together with family you haven't seen in a while and have a big meal.
