I get not wearing shirts of other bands or artists but the whole idea that you shouldn't wear a shirt of what you're seeing is just dumb.

The reason behind that is that some might take it as implying that the other band is better and can lead to tension which is at least somewhat understandable.

Wearing a shirt of a band you're seeing is not.

Imagine playing in a band and looking out at the crowd while playing a concert and nobody is wearing your merch.

I hear it all the time in Metal circles. Metal dudes think it makes you look like a poser. Also, Metal dudes are the stupidest guys on the planet.

I once saw a band and all the members were wearing their own shirts, I think it was a gimmick

It's normal to wear idol groups' shirts at their concerts. If you buy the show specific shirt you'll even be matching with the group when they change into them for the encore. It's a fun way to connect with them.

I guess it just feels kinda silly to me to wear a shirt of the band youre seeing, unless its like, a legitimate super vintage shirt

saw Gojira last night and like half the crowd was Gojira shirts.

I want to see a variety of shirts, see what else the people that like the bands I like, like

I mean as something that happens irl, this seems like an online phenomenon

It predated online. I honestly didnt think it was still a thing. Havent heard it in decades.

it seems like it would be fine. Especially if its from a tour they did a while ago or something obscure. I dont think anyone gives a shit anymore.

I've been to several concerts and wearing band shirts is completely normal. The coolest thing to do is wear some unknown band so you help give them exposure.

I've quite literally been to concerts where the performers are wearing band shirts for other acts.
