A large study of Pfizers experimental antiviral pill, paxlovid, has found that the drug can cut hospitalisations and deaths from Covid by nearly 90%, the company has said.
The US firms encouraging results, which are described in a press release but not yet peer-reviewed, suggest oral pills that can be taken at home are poised to take an increasing burden off hospitals that are still overstretched with Covid patients.

I remain skeptic, yet hopeful of this.

Still no idea why anti-vaxxers would treat it any differently from the vaccine, (article says it has a way higher risk of side effects and such) but hopefully this does help.

At this point, anything that helps is good.

I honestly wish medicine was advanced enough where the overall efficacy of a particular treatment/prevention method such as vaccines is not dependent upon whether a critical mass of the population also takes it. Hopefully in the future.

I know I've seen you ask this and people have answered but
A ) Selfish because IF you get sick you take up a hospital bed
B) This puts people who can't get the vaccine at increased risk
C) Overall transmission is reduced by the vaccine leading to (hopefully) less overall population with it and thus less need for masks

TC is just afraid of the vaccine, and regularly posts about it. He's seen all the rational arguments, no reason to beat a dead horse imo.

Ok? Still doesn't change that vaccines for contagious disease have currently always required a certain high percentage vaccinated to work correctly.

1. They will use this as an excuse to not get vaccinated because "look we have a cure now!!"
2. They will say "this new pill is unsafe and untested" and just stick to antiparasitics, bleach injections, or whatever else quack remedy they can find (i.e. what they are doing now)

my money is on the latter

I'm going to guess a mix. Most US people are pill poppers for one thing or another, so pills are very easy things to let into your body. So the initial bias to seek information that confirms your fears (of injections) isn't there at the jump. I think for most anti vaxxers, at least SOMEBODY they know has died, been hospitalized, or dealt with relatively long term respiratory issues to want to avoid that experience, but their fear of the vaccine and the imagined side effects/ conspiracies overrides that. As we have seen, in most cases being and anti vax person doesn't stop then from taking up ICU space, so they are not completely anti medicine (aside from a few stand outs).

Then there are the people that have well and truly bought into naturalist bs and alternative medicine. Maybe they'll fall out of it down the line when they realize it's all bs, but they'll avoid the pill while it's relevant.

This is all out of my ass speculation though.
