a decent chunk of the low user reviews on metacritic just criticize the film for being woke politcal garbage.

Hopefully this will at least not be like Ghostbusters and TLJ where the directors are incapable of admitting they made shitty movies and cry/cried about how it's all the fault of straight white men.

I really doubt that. Not just because she is a woman. No hard evidence. And she won Oscars for Nomadland.
As the director, you have one of the biggest influences, if not the biggest. You get a final say in the cast, and you can change the script/story, the presentation.. the overall tone and mood of the film. Eternals is clearly trying to be as inclusive to minorities as much as possible, while maximizing revenue. There's more females and leading females in this role, as well as minorities. It's a Disney thing, but she likely had that power and chose to. Maybe people thought it was pandering with the huge and diverse casting? Then they also had some cheesy cliches too. It's not a bad movie by any means though imo. majority of regular folks liked it though. Higher than critics --- Less is more. Everything you want, isn't everything you need. ... Copied to Clipboard!
