Saw a new listing from a somewhat local company looking for someone with my skills. I looked up the company and only two people work there, and the listed address is a large supermarket.

Just last week I applied for a temp job and the staffing agent gave me a call and casually explained that coincidentally the day I applied, the job "now exists in a different state" and are only looking for applicants who live in said state.

This job hunt is starting to make me hopeless.

I think Indeed is mosty set up to sell your information.
I know it destroyed my otherwise clean Email address.

Best advice, hit the pavement.

This hasn't worked in years. My previous employer would literally turn down every single person who walked in asking about a job; their logic being "if they had any sense they'd just apply online".

What drives me nuts is the amount of copy/paste job postings (where companies literally just copy/paste a standard description and put 0 effort into it, so it's not an accurate description) and postings that are marked as being in your city, but are actually based in some other state but use a "nationwide" keyword or something so they show up.

Or 10 different staffing agencies posting the same job.

It kind of depends where you live.
Where I live that is a good way, depending on what you want to do.
Also, a Meh Job can lead to a lot of networking.

I live in a fairly large, dense area somewhat close to a major city. It's to the point where even basic retail employers are only interested in hiring teenagers and college kids. I had an interview at a fast food chain where the manager went on a tangent ranting about it.

Indeed is fucking awful

Just think about it: if Indeed actually got you a decent job, they would lose money. Like most things under American capitalism, there's more money made in pretending to solve a problem than actually solving a problem.
