The normal version, the lite or the new OLED?

Havent played Nintendo console/games in years and been slowly getting interested in getting a Switch

Not really a handheld player so it seems Ill have it docked in order to play on my TV most of the time

Thanks for any suggestions.

I mean... if your going to get a Switch might as well get the OLED. It has a couple quality of life additions. That said, if your looking to emulate for any reason, the first version is the best choice.

But if your only going to play in docked, then the first model might be better.

The original model is your best bet then. Im pretty sure OLED only gets improvements in handheld mode. Lite is handheld only

If youre playing docked you probably have no need for the OLED screen, right?

I will say Id suggest springing for the Pro Controller (I believe is what its called). Ive been having to play handheld because the default Joycon controller sticks cant be charged while playing in docked mode (and their charge doesnt last very long in my experience). Im going to switch to docked once I get myself a Pro Controller because apparently it has a cord to charge while you play like PS and Xbox.

if you only care about playing it docked, get the regular one.

if you only care about portability, get the Lite one.

if you want both, get the OLED one.

@Shablagoo I would get an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller over the pro controller, having used both, the 8bitdo is the better controller, only thing it cant do is turn the switch on, but other than that, its better and cheaper

Just get the OLED imo. It'll save you the trouble of getting a LAN adapter at least.

Unless you want to wait for the Mario Kart bundle for Black Friday.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I don't know why I was thinking the Lite version just had less storage.......definitely scratch it off the list

The controller suggestions are appreciated as well

Doubt I'll be playing much of anything online, planning on making the Switch my only digital console cause I'd like to run through all the Mario, Zelda, etc. games that I've missed the past 20+years

I mean... if your going to do that, then just grab a wii-u and have someone mod it. Not that the Switch Mario/Zelda games aren't worth playing because they most certainly are.

The OLED is the best one to get and the best one to get value wise.

Well, virtual console doesnt exist on switch. You can play some classic titles but they require you to be subbed to nintendo switch online. Honestly you might be looking for the WiiU given this description

The $50 service has NES, SNES, Genesis, and N64. I think the first few have like 30 or 40 ROMs, N64 has 9 right now. In the last they've released a couple more ROMs every month or two I think.

Yeah the Wii U is one of the best consoles to mod on, it's where I play a lot of my old games on.

its also really bad right now. The N64 games have very noticeable latency issues from the people I've talked to.

It varies game to game from the info I've seen. And, unfortunately, SM64 and OoT are in the poorly emulated side of things.

as well as Mario Kart 64 apparently.

It's really sad tbh, they have these great games, but they can't be bothered to fix them to work properly on a subscription service that is vastly overpriced.
