With North American friends who live here in my country.

What am I as a guest expected to do? My friends are so lovely and pretty much just told me to show up and that is that. But should I bring something? A dish? A bottle of alcohol for the host?

Whatever you want tbh. You don't know what they have, so you might just bring something they already have a bunch of.

You can ask if you can bring or make something, but if they say no, just bring yourself! Also, be sure to leave as soon as you finish eating to get in line for a cheap TV. It's the American way! And I'm sure they'll appreciate you going the extra mile to embrace their culture. :]

I'm sorry, but 10,000 of ANYTHING on a PS2 would absolutely destroy your framerate. It'd be like playing chess through the mail. ~johnboy1

If they are saying that they have everything covered, then bringing something to add to dinner can be tough, since they arent saying what all is being served. Turkey is the main feature of a Thanksgiving dinner, and it really can be accompanied with anything.

Id say your best bet is to either bring a bottle of wine, a dessert (pumpkin pie is traditional for Thanksgiving), or perhaps something that can be snacked on beforehand - maybe something like cheese or a summer sausage that can be sliced individually on a cutting board?

Id say wine is the safe route.

Pro tip

Bring something you like that isn't too impressive. It's likely there will be leftovers, sometimes you get to take things home and potentially you can take some of what you brought with you.

Ive always imagined some hemmagjord lingonsylt (home made lingonberry sauce/jam) works well since there is cranberry sauce. Why not prepare rrrda lingon? Buy some frozen lingonberries and mix with sugar.
