I'm sure it's some money laundering nonsense but I can't grasp why anyone would pay large amounts of funny money to metaphorically "own" PNG files.

• Dudes who saw how the value of crypto exploded and are hoping to cash in early on the next big boom

Why would you buy a real painting when a copy could look identical and cost 99% less

Same reason people funneled money into Beanie babies, or Tulips, or Gamestop stock, People love get rich quick schemes.

If you get in and get out quick you can make some money off the scam as long as you are not late to sell when (not if WHEN) it crashes.

That last bit is whats annoying me. Everyone into NFTs hypes them up when most of them are just Art at this point and it all feels really artificial. People trying to create this FOMO bubble and it will all crash and burn
