(S)he want to serve his/her country. Are you proud?

Your child is extremely patriotic and wanted to join the military ever since they were able to talk. Now that theyre 18, they decide to sign up and join to serve. What are your thoughts?

Proud, not particularly. Id probably accept it. Id probably try to encourage them to take classes due to military benefits. Even if I had to say it could further your career in the military.

I might be proud of the ideals he holds himself or the position to, though not the reality of it. Not going to be proud of someone killing for oil.

Neutral. I would be constantly worried for them. If not on the battlefield, than by their fellow peers. As bullying, hazing, etc also exist there.

The vast majority of people in the military aren't in combat roles, so as long as he's not out there shooting brown folks I'd consider it a positive thing. He'd likely be learning a trade that could carry him throughout his life

neutral.

I might be worried, depending on what their role was, or if they're a woman, but besides that, I'd mostly care about what they'd do in the military/how it'd affect them.

Just so y'all know, only about 10% of the military is made of frontline fighters, so this idea that your child is going to run off and start killing people just because they joined the military is...flawed, at best.

Wouldn't really be proud, just hope they don't get themselves killed or psychologically scarred.

I'd prefer they go the officer route, but either way, sure. They could being doing far worse in life

Proud that they would sacrifice x amount of years to serve their country, but wary about their service being abused by shit head politicians.

End of the day, war is about killing so even if he isn't a grunt fighting on the front lines, he is still supporting the killing machine by joining up so I would be pretty disappointed. It's only because of morons like my son that wars are even fought.

Killing is a byproduct of war. War is about a lot more than just death. People die in war, yes, but people are also rescued by it. Combat isn't pretty, but it's far from the only thing a military member does.

Wouldn't want them to join, but I wouldn't stop them either if they really wanted to join.
