my rent is $1500 and then you add water/sewage/trash and my payment fee is $30 a month. That's with ACH payment.

It pisses me off. That's more than an hour of work for me after taxes. I would gladly write them a check instead. I really like the building management and I wonder if they'd give me another option.

I'm not sure it's an option. I could ask.

So long as you're charging me a "convenience" fee to make it more convenient for you to take my money, you're getting a goddamn check in the mail.
The price of a postage stamp is almost always cheaper than your bullshit fee.

I have the same problem TC. I chose to use a check this last month. And it took them weeks to cash it. So I had to get all my late fees taken away on top of it.

Pain in the butt.

My sewage and garbage bills charge a $0.50 convenience fee to pay via direct ACH vs. sending in a check. I used to send a check via my bank's bill pay service (which is free, vs. using my own envelope and stamp), but I stopped that... it really is convenient to just have it autopay vs. me taking action and forgetting or something.

Autopay tends to let you know your waterbill is a $1000 this month far too late to do anything about it.

There should be a convenience discount, not a convenience fee

Such a ripoff

A percentage? Good lord. Mine is 95 cents for ACH.

If they won't accept a check (which would be bullshit) then pay with a credit card that gives a % back in rewards. Mine is 1.5% cash back on everything, so even though you'd still be losing 0.45%, it's better than losing 1.95.

However mine does charge like 3% for credit card payments, so it's not worth it for me. Are you absolutely certain that your 1.95% is for debit cards/ACH too? Because that's fucking nuts.

it is. credit card would be 2.5%. I didn't think of the points angle.

but looking at it now it looks like I'm a dumb dumb because the charge for debit cards is a set fee of five dollars. I feel so stupid fpr not realizing this earlier but these rates are all stupid.

It says ACH is only $1.95.

But I would also be very surprised if they don't take a check.

My dumbness continues

I guess I'm confused over the breakdown, then. there's like 30 dollars which is unaccounted for after my rent, utilities, services, renter's insurance and service fees. I'll have to dig a bit more.

Eh, I've never seen such a complicated breakdown of payment fees, so I get it.

Misread makes sense then. I've never heard of an ACH costing a percentage for something like rent, rather than just a small fee (which, while small, is still unnecessary)

I hate the "convenience fee" we charge. About $25 bucks everytime you pay rent with a card. Only option that doesnt have this fee is an e-check, which requires your bank account and routing numbers.
