Imagine being in high school and you're like "Man! Super Metroid was cool, but there literally hasn't been a new Metroid game in 8 years!! Can't wait to finally play that new one! But maybe next week" Then as you're microwaving some Totino's Pizza Rolls, your friend calls you on the house phone and tells you to get the FUCK over to Hollywood Video and rent Metroid Prime RIGHT NOW! Cuz it's out, and literally the best game ever!

So you drop your plate on the floor and run the FUCK over to the rental store and rent that bitch. Then you pop it in and it's more glorious than you can imagine!

So what was it like for you? What did you love about Metroid Prime? >_>

I remember I was terrified of Sheegoths when I was younger.

Phenandra Drifts in general are permanently etched into the nostalgia cortex of my brain. That room where the power goes out and you have to use the X-Ray visor. That's the good stuff.

The Prime games are still my all-time favorite game series.

Even though I have the Trilogy, I'm waiting to replay it for the 9th time so that if it does release on Switch, I can repurchase and play fresh on that. My hype levels for MP4 are through the roof and I haven't seen an ounce of footage yet.

Hell yeah! They still hold up really well. I personally prefer the Gamecube version, which I'm sure you can easily acquire. But it's also on the Wii U as the Trilogy version if you want to go that route.

When I first played through the game, I was legit scared of the X-Ray visor power outage sequence, as well as the first few times I fought the Chozo ghosts in Tallon Overworld.

The atmosphere created during those specific sequences (specifically the music and lighting changes) really added to the tension.

I've been itching to replay Prime for half a year now, hoping that it comes out on the Switch. But I'm thinking of saying fuck it and just replay the gamecube version.

I had been wanting to replay the Prime games for about 5 years, and every time I finally decided "ok, I'll stop waiting for a remake and play it" there was some new article about a rumor of a remake and I decided to hold off.
After playing Metroid Dread I finally decided to say "screw it" and started replaying Metroid Prime.

Don't forget that Metroid Fusion also came out the same day as Metroid Prime. Getting 2 fantastic games from the same franchise on the same day was incredibly exciting.

I've still got the pictures that they gave away for free with the game at Circuit City framed and hanging on the wall of my office:

Amazing games. 1 > 2 > 3 for me. The first is in my top 5 along with Super, with Echoes not far behind.

It was a big surprise, because before release it seemed like a huge mistake to go down that path, but the first game certainly delivered, minus one or two issues.

The atmosphere is off the charts, thanks the graphics, music and sound effects all being on point. The power-ups have mostly been translated as well as possible (with one or two absent). The level design is great, giving us those "a-ha!" moments when we work out where to use a newly acquired power-up, plenty of interesting ways to use power-ups, and the same joy of exploration from the 2D games. Sequence breaking is surprisingly good, with plenty of ways to break the game open.

The bosses are... alright? 2 certainly improves on them.

inb4 that poster that absolutely hates the games despite having never played them, and can't be convinced to even try them.

IIRC, I think you can pick up most of them along the way if you know where they are.

But yeah, your first time through, you're not gonna know any of that and maybe get 1 or 2 before you have to go to Impact Crater

You can get like....half(?) the keys before the door. But yeah, a lot of them are straight up just locked behind getting the Light Suit upgrade and it really sucks. While Prime 1, only 1 was locked behind getting the Phazon Suit and it wasn't too far from the Omega Pirate area.

The artifacts are amazing, actually. Theyre just there to run the map. Which is already fun. So, you might get this feeling that its gonna be a pain in the ass but Ive never actually had a bad time getting the artifacts. Sometimes its a little rocky. You miss a turn somewhere. The flying pirates suck. But thats Prime for you. 10/10 all day.
